I absolutely loathe the recording of Thankful. It's horrific and the producer should have been shot. They gave Yelly a lisp throughout the song. WHO THE
FUCK DOES THAT? The live versions are soo much better and mellow.

MakePaulaCry wrote:OMG I completely agree! the recorded version is total shit compared to her live versions...but that holds true for a lot of Kelly's songs. She's really a master at interpretation and improving on her songs in concert. |

I like it fine until toward the end when the overproduction is overwhelming. I think Babyface produced that one. He also overproduced "You Thought
Wrong" which is another of my favoirtes from Thankful.
The fact is that Kelly's live versions of songs are often better than the recordings. I think it's because 1) Highly controlled recordings can never really capture the energy of a live performance 2) She gives the song a "lived-in" feel the more she performs it and often adds some thrilling vocal ad-libs 3) Producers are too often caught up in "producing" to let the vocals be raw and real. They're like a secondary character who tries to upstage the main player. They don't know how to play for the team for a better overall result. Or maybe they're trying their best but they just suck at producing. Max and Luke are prime examples of producers who don't know shit about producing for someone who can actually SING. Miss Independent and Walkaway are prime examples of how Kelly takes live versions to the next level. |

You know my thole, you know everythin about me thereth to know. Ugh. Fucking hate it.
To I ReallyLikeYou, I feel the same way not with You Thought Wrong but Save You. Yelly sounds amazing but the backing band is so busy sounding. They have a guitar to start, then do those marching drums, then a piano solo in the middle, it's almost over the top.

save you should've, IMO, been a completely striped down vocal performance with little to no accompaniment except in the bridge where they do that really
light piano thing, which is lovely.
I can't wait to hear her perform that song live.... that and Cry... and whyyawannabring me down... |

I like the the demo version of Save You better with the drums turned down. The drums in Yelly's version intrude on her vocal.

I love "Save You," but the song would improve with less drums. I knew something sounded off when I first heard her version and that was it. It'd
be cool if she does an acoustic version at some point with just a piano or something.

I feel the same way about "Ready", they should have left it alone. Hopefully she'll do some acoustic shows for AOL or VH1.
