Upon the announcement of genre-icon Sam Raimi's return to horror with his upcoming Drag Me To Hell, horror fans have been rejoicing in the streets. But, according to Variety.com today, those same fans of the dark and demented will have another reason to celebrate (or sulk). The CW is enlisting the help of Evil Dead/Army of Darkness/Spider-Man director Raimi for an eight-episode order of a non-scripted horror-themed television show called 13. Raimi, along with his Ghost House Production (the team co-responsible for FEARnet's Devil's Trade and 30 Days of Night: Blood Trails) and reality vet Jay Beinstock, will executive produce.
Beinstock says that he plans to use that age-old premise of horror-themed reality shows that place contestants in bone-chilling situations to see who survives, and also wants to include references to classic horror films like Friday the 13th and A Nightmare on Elm Street in the setting. As for casting the show, Beinstock says, "We want to cast it like a horror movie, and shoot it a little differently as well. Think about those old movies-we want to put people in a place like that, where they have to deal with their fears and anxieties. They'll end up surprising one another."
Let's just hope that the festering virus we know as reality TV won't seep into some of the most sacred of places, like-oh, I don't know-a camp by a Crystal Lake?
