SPVs, I guess, will go here.
And unfortunately my SPV count (which, btw, I said I wasn't interested in doing this year because I didn't think a basic tally resulted in any insight, but what the hey) didn't get on page 1 - we were out of town for some sad but necessary obligations. So SPVs will be here.

1: CPM3
------- Leslie Watchdog report, episode 1 For my WD report I was torn between CP and MOR (M3 for tone/visibility are easy by comparison). So I consulted the definition of CP and MOR to see what fits - and my comments for each are in blue. CP - Complex personality 1) CP means a character that is well-developed. Their editing has depth to it, and their choices are presented to the audience so that we get an insight into their thinking. We generally see their strengths and flaws. Not too surprisingly, these are the major players in the course of the game, and it is their choices that shape the story. Yep. We understood exactly why she left the temple, which was a critical scene. We definitely saw strengths/flaws. Supplant this with her comfort of PG and her embrace of James and she was quite well-developed. In some ways we "know" her as well as anyone. 2) CP shows complexity of thought about the game, and or complex emotions that might be construed as Positive or Negative. "Players" like Brian, Shii Ann, Jeff Varner, or Chris, during the normal course of their editing, would in my mind be complex because they were always in the game. and many of their edits related directly to the strategic maneuvering in their tribe (successful or not). We didn't get insight into her game, but we indeed got complex emotions that were construed both positively and negatively. 3) Someone who expresses internal conflict over a situation, someone who expresses a "deep" or turbulent emotion like remorse, loneliness, or betrayal expressed intelligently and not like "You're a liar, T!;" someone who demonstrates a complex strategy or bold strategic move and their reasoning for it. There has to be something shown in interviews that contradicts what we've seen or adds conflict to the scenario. Definitely complex internal struggles, but not over the game itself. We understand that she's going to play the game as herself, though - that came out from her emotions and comments. 4) If the player gets quality screen time and is either shown multiple times being strategic or shows a multi-dimensional side, then you go with CP. Strategic, no, mult-dimensional quality time, yes. So - what do you do with the above? I always thought that CP had to be based on gamesmanship, but the above statements always provide an "or" to the game/strategy. Put it this way - if there was ever an edit that was complex but did NOT involve deep strategy, Leslie's was it. Now let's quickly look at MOR; 1) MOR means something between UTR, CP, and OTT. They say and do enough to avoid UTR, but they're not emphasized caricatures or developed personalities. This is a holding episode for characters who could be CP, but the story didn't particularly involve them, or for normally UTR characters who couldn't escape inclusion in the story. As such, winners are often portrayed as MOR at some point in the story. However, a consistently MOR edit is not a good thing because these characters are more just kind of there. It wasn't a holding episode, that's for sure. Leslie WAS an emphasized caricature/developed personality. The story did involve her personality. 2) Someone who gets an odd positive and negative mix, but not in an Over the Top manner. Note that this is NOT a substitute for M tone. What's interesting about her is that people are saying P or N or neutral about the exact same events. 3) If the player did something that you feel makes them better that UTR, but not enough to qualify for CP, then you rate MOR. Nope. 4) MOR can be used to describe characters who were mostly UTR with a fair amount of CP. Nope. In past years I'd have quickly dubbed Leslie MOR just because she was not shown being a "gamer." The problem is that MOR simply doesn't apply very well. Reluctantly, and because MOR simply doesn't work - despite the lack of strategy, she is CP. The Tone of M is rather obvious to me. She had strong emotional moments that were either truly P or could be thought of as either strongly N or neutral. M seems clear. Visiblity 3 is straightforward from both the "gut feeling" about her screen time and the numbers. Result: CPM3 Winner possibility: Yes. Nothing yet to edgically eliminate

Notice:
Edic S-14 thread is finished and a request has been made to move it to the Attic. P.S.: I have decided not to go outside of Spec for the rest of the season. In the past, I've limited myself to some peaks in at S+ to see if we knew where the next Survivor was happening, or some posting in MESS preview analysis. But as moderator, even that should be out, so, "Good-bye MESS, it was good knowing, ye." (I have no ghost nics.)

I have decided not to go outside of Spec for the rest of the season.Given that there are very detailed spoilers for S15, probably a wise decision. |

Please don't tell me they don't have an entire boot list yet. Somehow, you know it will leak out. How do people get these spoilers, anyways? Boots are spoiled before filming ends sometimes. I guess it's from a guy who knows a guy who is related to a guy who... 24 Hours and 13 Minutes!!!! |

Suckster ElinorRigby is Denise I hear. I'd say there's a pretty good chance that there's a boot list.
ETA: Spoilers or not...I'm excited for our premier! Have a great season everyone... Chap |

Actually, there is a bootlist. Winner hasn't been spoiled yet, but pretty much everything else has. And I imagine the winner will probably be spoiled
sooner rather than later.

I'm curious to see the visibility numbers from tonight. It seemed like there were a lot of 2's and 3's.

Any early calls on winners/big characters yet?
James is definitely looking like he's going far with his sappy music. As for possible winners... Aaron? Maybe Courtney? Possibly James? Frosti? Hard to say, really. |

Early post-show ratings that ultimately mean nothing:
Aaron: MOR2 (maybe 3) Amanda: UTR1 Ashley: MOR4 Chicken: MORN4 Courtney: MORN2 (this is a tough rating) Dave: MOR3 Denise: UTR1 Erik: UTR1 Frosti: UTR2 Jaime: UTR1 (may be INV, tough call right now) James: MOR2 (a little CP but not enough) Jean-Robert: MOR2 Leslie: UTR2 Peih-Gee: MORN3 (possibly 4) Sherea: UTR2 Todd: CP4 (possibly slight P) Overall it was a great episode, very character driven. |
