Country music artist Underwood, who has sold over 11 million records worldwide since winning the fourth season of American Idol, follows in the footsteps of past performers Celine Dion and K Club surprise guest Van Morrison.

The 37th Ryder Cup promises to be a who's who of the sporting and entertainment business with a host of celebrities expected to descend on Valhalla.

Fashion at the Ryder Cup has become as big a talking point as the competition itself with much more emphasis focused on the attire of the European and American teams as they make final preparations before tee-off on Friday.

Just as European team captain Nick Faldo and American counterpart Paul Azinger have been fretting over their line-ups, the pair are responsible for the team's outfits.

Former European captain Sam Torrance said: "You're given a company that supplies everything, and you go with it," he said. "Every day we'd see a group of mannequins in different combinations of color and patterns. It was great fun."

Fun, it may well be, but the outfit also has to be fit for purpose believes Azinger.

"I remember being on a team in Europe and it was freezing cold and the pants I was wearing didn't fit right," Azinger said.

"I wasn't comfortable and the weather only made it worse. I can't tell you how aggravating something like that is. It's my job to make sure this year's team doesn't experience any problem like that."

Turning out in attire that gets everyone talking is not necessarily the right message to send out to your rivals but it helped the Americans achieve a last-gasp win at Brookline in 1999.

Trailing by four points heading into the final day, David Duval and the rest of the US squad turned out in maroon polo shirts, decorated with photos of past American Ryder Cup heroes.

It proved a masterstroke as American produced a remarkable comeback to win by a point.

Looks like Carrie made an impression to some of the Europeans at the Ryder Cup Gala.

Witness this year's Gala Dinner, for example, hitherto the great social occasion of Ryder Cup week. This one, held last evening, was a shambles, rescued only by the sweet voice of Carrie Underwood, the evening's entertainment. I confess I'd never heard of the former American Idol winner, but thank God for Carrie. She was about as near as the evening got to a dose of sincerity.

Fall Shows Will Feature Special Guest Little Big Town

NASHVILLE - (Sept. 22, 2008) - Carrie Underwood's highly successful album CARNIVAL RIDE was recently nominated as CMA Album of The Year, and her headline tour of the same name, the "Carnival Ride Tour," has shared tremendous success as well since launching earlier this year. Over 700,000 fans have attended the tour so far, with 51 more shows planned this fall in the U.S. and Canada. By the end of the year, Underwood will have performed 137 live shows in 2008, in addition to her many Opry and TV performances. Underwood has received strong critical acclaim for her live performances on the "Carnival Ride Tour."
