IMNSHO, the EBT got a bad rap due primarily to a few stupid moves by a few stupid members who ultimately got booted from the community (see: Liquidstar) or saw
the community wrestled from beneath their feet (see: Ellipsiiis). There was a fairly sizeable portion of the community (myself included) who actively avoided
reading the "little birdie" spoilers DR's insiders provided and instead chose to spoil the old-fashioned way, so this antiquated notion that we
were all behind closed doors sticking out our tongues at everyone else while celebrating our superiority is just sooooo far off the mark. We had our bad apples
just like evry other Internet community, but by and large they were voted out post-haste as soon as infractions were discovered.

Our IRL get-togethers became somewhat legendary... ranging from a handful of people to one totally unmanagable huge group that while being a lot of fun might
have presaged the beginning of the end for EBT. Getting to know your board buddies face to face can be a hell of a lot of fun. Right EOTT? (Dirty, dirty whore!
 )

Too bad there are no Sucksters where I live, and I'm too poor to go meet them even I could.
It seems to me that the rivalries AND the alliances (or whatever you would call the various cliques) were much deeper back then. Very extreme. And uh...who is SurvivorAntarctica? |

No clue who this SurvivorAntarctica of which you speak is. Never heard of him/her/it.
Not only did we speak to each other by name, we stayed at each other's homes, got drunk together, saved one another from drowning while swimming in the ocean in the middle of the night in fucking FEBRUARY, had sex with each other, and a few of us even got married and had kids together. I know of at least 3 married couples that met via Survivor spoiler boards, and many, many more couplings ranging from long-term relationships to brief, torrid flings. And wouldn't you love to read THAT codex?!?! LMAO
