Unmasking an aspect of dining out that will make you think twice before ordering off the menu, and utilizing his knowledge of all things edible, Andrew Zimmern is on a quest to find the world's most bizarre foods. Andrew knows that one man's poison is another's delicacy but he isn't afraid to poke a little fun at the local fare or himself. Our energetic food-a-holic infiltrates markets and restaurants taking viewers behind the scenes to savor the local cuisine - even if that means chewing on eggs with legs, gulping down a beating frog heart or polishing off a lamb's eyeball. Andrew is game for anything and knows the most interesting food is found closest to the source. So whether he's chasing down large water rodents in the Louisiana bayou, fishing for piranha in the Amazon or flushing out cave bats in Malaysia, you can be sure the guy with the iron stomach will dish up the unimaginable. the only reason i bring this up, other than dude fishing for p'ha in the Amazon (heh), is a chick i once dated... a boston university grad (need i say more). too young, too pretentious, but! adventitious. we were in san francisco, deep in the bowels of chinatown, and with her 3rd year chinese we were ordering items ON the menu... but the waiter refused to deliver some of her choices. in his perfect english (i'm sure the only word he knew) he was all NO! NO! NO! he was protecting us (i love you, chinese waiter man.) heh... after "kitchen nightmares" i'm afraid to eat things i think i know about. what is up with andrew zimmern???

He's coming back for, of all things, a class called Bizarre Foods. Of course I am going! It's not til February, but I'll let you know what we do in there... I should bring him a durian for a special gift.

The audio track is more nauseating than most of the food items he consumes. It's quite unnecessary. Still, the show is well-done and interesting, focusing not only on the food but local culture and vibrant personalities. Last week my DVR caught "Bizarre Worlds With Andrew Zimmern," in which he toured Turkey and the focus was not on food. I'd like to see more of this. I know he's "married," but he's a raging homo. It's HIS dream-job, too: he gets to travel the world for months on end WITHOUT his wife, eat and get fatter, and pay for Indonesian male prostitutes using a Travel Channel expense account.

Posts: 9516 (12/24/08 12:10 AM) Registered user Reply Quote More Recent Posts	I had only seen a few episodes of this show before (it's really more of a there's-nothing-else-on-and-you-stumble-across-it show than something I make a point of watching, even though I do like it) but there's a marathon on and I'm randomly watching it. He's eating sea slug innards in Samoa and he was basically like "this fucking sucks!" to the old Samoan lady who gave it to him. It was kinda sad but also hilarious because I've never seen him not even bother to pull out a "oh, it's.....a unique flavor" with a fake smile <3.

This was a special dinner for a family who had little to give but he was so polite! I like that about him. There's been only one episode where he refused to drink this green stuff and left the restaurant.

I think Bourdain is more serious about the idea behind food and he is just damn hot. Zimmern is just that kid that you could give a $1 and he would eat a bunch of smashed up food in Middle School. The foods he eats are shiteous. I think Alaska may have had some of the worst food, right along with Iceland. I cannot remember the counrty he visited, but all in all one of the funniest episodes ever (not just of this show, but television in genaral) was when he visited a "medicine man" and the guy literally beat him with branches, spit fire at him, and rubbed him down with a guinea pig. It gets lost when trying to explain it, but seriously it was priceless. He looked so violated and he broke out in hives. I rewatched it with my mom and she laughed so hard and was caught so off guard by it she literally wet her pants. She now refuses to watch him because she said it was one of the funniest things he ever saw that led to one of her most humiliating moments in her life. Love the Zimmern.

He has some sort of catch in his jaw joint, so not only do we get the sound of his smooshy chewing, but the rhythmic crack, crack, crack of his jaw. Turn off the damn mic when the guy is eating, I beg of the producers! It's almost as unappetizing as Guy Fieri shoveling grease in his face.
