From the moment I saw the commercial for this, I fell in love with it. If it's anything like what this TV Guide review says, then this could very well
be my new favourite show. I like the time slot too, so it shouldn't conflict with most other shows.
'Da Kink in my Hair

Ordena Stephens-Thompson and Jully Black'Da Kink in My Hair
Sundays, 7:30 p.m. ET/PT, GlobalWho's in it? Ordena Stephens-Thompson, Ngozi Paul, Trey Anthony, Conroy Stewart
What's it about? Based on Trey Anthony's award-winning play of the same name, this dramedy centres on a busy hair salon in Toronto's Caribbean community. In the intimacy of the salon, women dish about love, life and career. As the signature line says, "If you want to know about a black woman, you touch her hair."
Reminds us of: The Beauty Shop and Barbershop films.
What's good? Finally, something uniquely Canadian for the Caribbean community! Heavier issues like immigration are offset by comedic moments, which are thankfully unpunctuated by a laugh track. And, even watching a couple minutes of the show will help you deal with your hair issues.
What's bad? People outside the Caribbean community may not relate to some of the material, and men may be off put by the female focus, thereby narrowing the audience and reducing the likelihood of a pickup.
Bottom line? Original, relevant and smart.
