Only information I have found is besides being the new 'IDOL' franchise, is that IAN DICKSON is one of the judges. He was a judge on Australian Idol. American Band above is link to myspace for the show Starts Friday Oct 19th 2007. According to Nigel Lythgoe from So You Think You Can Dance, auditions start tomorrow August 18th. Would this thread be better in American Idol (BAND) thread as it will bridge Canadian IDOL to American Idol. Discuss or feel free to delete or lock if this is a duplicate topic. Looks like Fuller and Lythgoe are looking to their Australia and NZ idol shows for some of the shows host/judging duties: from star online central today: Music personalities to judge American Band The Next Great American Band has announced its judges, which will comprise Goo Goo Dolls singer John Rzeznik, percussionist Sheila E. and Ian "Dicko" Dickson, a music-business veteran. Dominic Bowden, the host of New Zealand Idol, will also host the show. The Next Great American Band, based on a similar format as that of American Idol, will have groups performing in a few different styles as it looks for the top unsigned band in the US. JUDGES: JOHN REZNICK Sheila E ('She don't lead the Glamorous life') IAN DICKSON (and with Australian Idol judges) AND THE HOST OF THE SHOW FROM NEW ZEALAND IDOL DOMINIC BOWDEN (thank god they did not hire Canadian Idol Ben Mulroney)

Rock star John Rzeznik of the Goo Goo Dolls, percussionist and Prince collaborator Sheila E, and Ian "Dicko" Dickson of Australian Idol have been confirmed as judges of the new show. Dominic Bowden of New Zealand Idol hosts. The Next Great American Band will whittle its field of contestants down to 10 semifinalist bands. The bands will perform weekly for a live studio audience, tasked to play both original music and various covers in a range of genres and styles. The show plans to push contestants' comfort zones and limits, hoping for inter-band strife and personality clashes. Although judges will discuss their preferences after each performance, band elimination or survival depends on show viewers, who will vote for favorite bands after the end of each episode. Host Bowden will announce the results at the start of the next show. The season finale pits the three final groups against each other in competition for the show title and a recording contract with 19 Recordings. The Next Great American Band kicks off with a two-hour premiere Friday, October 19, at 8 p.m. ET, and will air regularly on Fridays at 8. I am hoping that this will have some talent like Rockstar: INXS/Supernova, but I am fearing it will lean more towards IDOLesque bands.

Wide range of bands auditioning, will be interesting to see what groups they end up with. Here is one audition tape that looks like a promising band named Omenus. MY PICK>.... just found these guys.. the GAY band!!!! The FABULOUS JOHNSON BROTHERS....These guys must make the show! Great sound... ala Scissor Sisters Is that a transvestite on sax? The lead singer is reality tv gold.. his line after saying the band has survived everything: "When the world ends there will be cockroaches, Cher and the Fabulous Johnson Brothers, that's it!"

But I would have thought that this would be a shoo-in following the production group of The idol franchise, with So You Think You Can Dance a huge hit as well. But then again, I would have put money on Pirate Master and On The Lot to be hits as they are MB's productions. Guess we will see what happens. Lots to choose from this fall for reality tv competitions. (although I do not think there are any other phone-in competitions)

Must be a loser.. oh well, starts Friday and will check it out: Here is an article from tv Fodder: Will You Watch "The Next Great American Band?" Will "American Idol" lightening strike twice? More importantly, do you care? This week, Fox is kicking off "The Next Great American Band," an "American Idol"-style competition that will ask the viewing audience to choose, well... you get the idea. Fox hasn't even launched an official site for the show, yet there appears to be a lot of info leaking out onto the web. Whether you believe any of the claims, that's another story. What we do know: John Rzeznik (The Goo Goo Dolls), Sheila E. and Aussie Ian "Dicko" Dickson (Australian Idol) are judges; Dominic Bowden (New Zealand Idol) will host. Also from what we've seen, you can expect a lot of hair and a lot of different musical genres. Sticking with the winning "AI" formula, the show's premiere will feature auditions. However, they don't plan to drag it out; plenty of dreams will be crushed by the end of the 2-hour episode. Friday at 8pm is the premiere. The timeslot sucks, but I'm guessing they're just counting on all the Idol viewers to latch on without great promotion or a good schedule. Let's see how it goes. I'm trying to stay optimistic about this show...but realistically it probably won't make it a full season. And I just did a myspace search of all those bands and i'm even more worried. It's like 80 percent generic rock bands. I don't think that can be the actual cast though, cause aside from the 3 I couldn't find, all the rest were all male bands. The only good ones that stuck out to me in a good way were The 440 Alliance, Dova Grove, Red Halo and Syndicatte.
