It's hard to go almost anywhere outside of Spec without accidentally seeing something. It's pretty much isolated me to Spec and only Spec. And I love MESS! :P But even in MESS, there are posters who get sloppy with the boot/winner spoiler talk. I say blow the whistle on posters who start spoiler threads here or who introduce spoilers into threads. But, I agree with PT that there's no point in saying "Ban posters who've read a spoiler." Anyone lurking outside Spec is at risk of reading something. It all comes down, (as it always has), to each individual's character and choices.

I knew the forum was for vidcap analysis and preview discussion and whatnot, but I thought it was a collaborate effort with regular spoilers to get a full picture of the season. I didn't say people who read spoilers don't let it affect their posts, so I'm not really sure what the issue is with me saying that. I completely understand how aggravating it can be to be reading a non-spoiler forum and have some ass say "Well, I know your analysis is wrong winkwink". Besides, there's no way to keep people who read spoilers from posting here, so it's pretty much pointless to even discuss if they should or not. It would be nice if people would just respect the rules and not post any spoiler related stuff in here at all, but since we all know the odds of that happening are very slim, it's good that someone is now in charge of keeping an eye on this forum.

MESS tries to spoil coming episodes by deconstructing clues from promos and previews. It's not a place for boot lists or winner leaks. It's a collaborative effort that makes for a great party. But now and then, someone will use boot spoiler info, because they've forgotten that its not common knowledge to all of us. It's not MESSy info, but it sometimes leaks in. I'll play in MESS, but like anywhere, you take the risk of reading something you'd rather not.

Therefore boot lists are very much frowned upon. One reason current boot spoilers and other spoilers are allowed is to discuss their merits along with other evidence. I can recall 3 instances where the boot spoilers were put aside and subsequently proven wrong, and several others where they were ignored. There are many instances wherer other spoilers on challenges & other things were proven wrong by vidcaps, articles, blurbs and other information. Last Edited By: crocophile 08/28/07 11:30 AM. MESS likes to look at all the media bits and pieces to spot and figure out the spoilers; next week's boot, next week's immunity winner, etc...That's a big difference from insider boot lists. But, there are people who don't know the difference or just don't care where their spoilers originate. So they can get casually dropped into the mix in MESS. I don't think it's malicious as much as a slip. I'll still MESS around, but I'm taking a chance.

Trying to reduplicate that while keeping it open to everyone that ventured within. That means using spoilers, but making it crystal clear WHAT spoilers are being used. That was before the age of reasonably reliable spoilers. Uncle Camerman vs Now. Now, there's a GOOD chance that a spoiler WILL be reliable, as opposed to then. There are different LEVELS of spoiling now. There are SOURCE spoiling (like ChillOne, MersayDeez, etc.) that you pretty much have to take at face value or cry "Bullshit!" at. Then there are spoilers that are PUBLIC INFORMATION: The Previews, Interviews, Pix of contestants - post game. This presents a poser. If you include the latter, how can you exclude the former? Obviously, the MESS THRIVES off publicly confirmed spoilers. (T'was our Meat and Potatoes in the early years.) Yet, some people in Spec don't even what public information spoilers brought in. Then, dedicated MESS founding members Wezzie and QuartzEye go off to the Pearl Islands to do Source Spoiling about S7 and S8. That complicates things tenfold. Ideally, I would want the MESS to have Public Spoilers, but no Source Spoilers and Spec to have NEITHER. That would give everyone the option of having BOTH, ONE or NEITHER. That, obviously is not possible. The MESSIES have decided that they will accept Source Spoilers AND Public Spoilers and Speckers simply have to accept that. You go into the MESS, YOU WILL BE SPOILED. I can't help that, because I can't control, nor does the MESS Hall WANT me to control, what Spoilers go in and what stays out. All I can do is keep Spec as Spoiler-Free as possible. The MESS thread, Story Arcs, maybe OUGHT to be moved to Spec, as it contains valuable opinions that Speckies ought to know. But how can I police how spoiled every poster in that thread should be? The only standard I can hold for Spec is Spoiler-FREE. So if you venture into MESS or Spoilers, post at your PERIL. With no one else minding the store, the only standard can only be MY DISCRETION as to whether you are posting or influenced by Spoilers here.

By its very definition as "spoiler-based", MESS becomes a risk for a Spec poster. Edgic is not affected by weekly boot spoiling, especially ones based on preview analysis. Edgic's focus is the winner. Figuring out who goes in the next week will have minimal effect at most. But it does open a can of worms. And, yes, MESS can, occasionally, have boot spoiler info mentioned. Spoiled posters are allowed to MESS, so it's gonna happen. As Edgic moderator, I won't go outside of Spec. If you see me post anywhere else, I will stop my Edgic participation for the rest of the season. (Oh, the shame!)

Trying to spoil the coming episodes from the clues given to us from promos and previews. Sort of like CSI. Sadly I was just in Mess and someone gave a spoiler of someone in the final 3. I'm bummed I read it but I know I'm at risk just being on these boards.

I guess I should have read further before I posted the reply above. I've been going to mess for a few years and haven't really noticed boot list spoilers until much later in the game.
