Blindsided
The Foa Foa Tribe returns to camp and Erik happily announces that it's nice to be able to go back to camp for once without Shambo barking at everyone. In the meanwhile, Dave stands by, unsure of exactly what happened at tribal council. He expresses his surprise "Going into tribal council, I wasn't really expecting Russell or one of the Foa Foas to flip, but I figured we'd at least be able to force a tie. I mean, I'M willing to draw rocks to protect my alliance, if that's what it takes. But then Shambo was sent home and I'm the only person who was left out…so I'm not quite sure what's going to happen to ol' Danger Dave in the next few rounds."
While Dave tends to the fire and the rest of the tribe sleeps, John heads over to talk to him. Dave asks John what happened with the vote and John tells him that Shambo was rubbing too many people the wrong way. John explains his talk with Dave "We voted out Shambo. No going back on that now. But with old Galu down four to three, Dave's vote becomes vital, because we need protection, just in case Russell isn't a man of his word. Dave's a smart guy, and I know he knows it's safer with me and Erik, but you've gotta work with people's emotions sometimes too."
Dave asks why he wasn't informed about the vote and John tells him that he was only kept out of the loop because if something slipped out to Shambo, she would've burned the camp down. Dave laughs and agrees. John asks if Dave is cool with him and Dave just asks that he be informed what's going on, especially since old Galu is down in numbers. Dave gives his take on the chat "I trust John. He's a really smart dude. He's thinking two moves down the road, and that's a good person to be working with, because as long as you're in their plans, you're SET in those plans. You aren't going anywhere."
For Warmth, That's All
The Galu tribe sleeps mostly in their shelter, curled up for warmth. Yasmin has a pillow wrapped tightly around herself, as does Monica. Mick and Liz have paired off and are huddled together for warmth, while Ben spoons with Kelly. Outside of the shelter, however, Russell S. sleeps alone, snoring in the hammock. Yasmin describes this "I think with Russell, he wants to sleep in the shelter. I mean, who wouldn't? It's freezing at night out here. But sometimes he gets real aware of the cameras, and he starts thinkin' about his family back home and I think he's afraid his wife'll whoop his ass if she sees him sleeping with four other women. Hahaha!"
Ben whispers that he's going to go check on the fire and Kelly responds that he needs to hurry back as climbs out of the shelter. While he's gone, Liz is on to him "I know what's he's doing and it's not going to work. Ben's no Prince Charming and no one is falling for his bull*censored*." After a few minutes of poking at the fire and checking on Russell, Ben returns to the shelter and resumes his spot in the shelter, wrapping his arms around Kelly from behind. Kelly describes her relationship with Ben "Ben's kind of a bad boy, but at the same time, he's got that whole southern gentleman thing goin' for him and he's really nice to have around camp. He works hard, keeps me warm. Ben's a real asset to the tribe. Or at least to me."
Cleaning the Nest
Betsy hangs a pair of blue jeans over a low-hanging tree branch. Ashley comically picks up a pair of boxers, with a stick, from near the campfire, and hands them to Betsy to hang out to dry as well. Betsy continues her family metaphor "Some of the guys leave the camp all messy and it's just like an instinct for me to keep everything clean. I'd yell at 'em to pick up their clothes, but heck, my REAL kids would probably vote me out if I started barkin' orders at 'em, so I'm not gonna push my luck with the boys on my tribe."
Back at the campfire, Ashley asks Betsy if the rice looks ready. After a brief once-over, Betsy nods and tells her it looks good. Ashley explains her relationship with Betsy "I'm really close with my mom back home and I don't have her out here. Like, things are really tough, and Betsy has been there for me since the beginning. She's like my mom out here, and I need that in this game."
As the girls finish with the rice, John returns with a few fish, saying they "bring a bounty and a feast for dinner," bowing playfully to the two women. Ashley giggles and Betsy takes the bag, preparing to scale their meal as John heads back out to the other guys in the water. Betsy finally describes her relationship with Ashley "With Ashley, she reminds me of one of my daughters, and she's pretty much the only other girl I've got out here. She trusts me, and I like her. We work well together."
Mending Fences
Mick lies in the shelter, talking to Liz. He says he apologizes for voting Marisa out, but he doesn't think that it's worth sabotaging everyone's game just to get revenge. Liz says that it isn't revenge, she just doesn't trust the people who betrayed her. Mick expresses frustration "Part of me just wants to sever all ties with Liz. That part of me thinks she's a lost cause. But, I'd like to think I have a good relationship with Liz, and maybe I can still use that for something." Liz continues by saying she was upset with Mick's vote, but she still likes him a lot more than Ben and Natalie. Mick asks her why and she tells him it's because he's not fake. Liz continues "Mick is not in my alliance. If all goes according to plan, it's Ben, then Mick, next time we go to tribal council. But Mick is someone who I need to stay in good with, because he's still gonna be sticking around for a while, and if he makes the merge, I might need his vote." Mick asks Liz if the two of them have any chance of working together and Liz says maybe. Mick sums it up "This sucks. I'm relying on someone who probably can't even stand me, and there's not a whole lot I can do about it. I'm trying my best to find some sort of crack in Liz's defenses, or Galu's defenses, but there's not a lot of time to worm my way into the tribe."
A Man of His Word?
In the jungle, Russell, John and Erik for a strategy session. With Shambo's elimination, John actively wants to make sure that a Foa Foa is going to be the next target. Russell reassures him that Ashley will be the next to go and it's not even a question. He doesn't want to keep Ashley in the game so long as both Liz and Jaison are still around. John expresses doubt "If I were Russell, I had a four to three advantage over the other tribe, I would not be trying to take out one of my own team, so forgive me if I'm a little unsure about his motives." Russell shakes Erik's hand and then shakes John's and tells them that the next time they go to tribal council, they just need to write down Ashley's name and she's going home. Erik comments on John's attitude "I don't get why John is so paranoid sometimes. I mean, Russell needs us. Ashley's basically useless except when she's tanning or something, which, by the way, I enjoy watching. I just can't see a guy like Russell keeping her around and screwing us over." Russell then says that he might not be able to get Betsy on-board with Ashley, but they've got Dave's vote, so it doesn't matter. John says that Dave would do anything to save himself and Erik agrees. Russell H. considers his options "Right now, Ashley trusts me. Jaison trusts me. Betsy trusts me. John and Erik both trust me. I've got no deal with Dave. I told John and Erik I'd vote Ashley next, but she's a number to me. I may not like the girl, but she's a vote I can use. Dave might be my best option to go after next round."
Killing the Rat, Attempt Two
Kelly and Monica lie on one of the tribe's blankets, tanning, while Ben sits beside Kelly, scratching her lower back. Ben explains his strategy "I've really been trying to work on the girls for their vote. I may not be able to turn them against each other, but right now, my goal is to outlast Liz. Just need to plant that seed of doubt and maybe she'll go home." He asks if either of them would consider voting Liz out next. Kelly tells him that they have an alliance with Liz and Ben says they could have an alliance with him too if they wanted. Monica says that she doesn't trust Liz and Ben agrees, saying she has no loyalty to anyone. Monica states her position "With Liz gone, I get my spot back in the alliance. I may be fourth of four, but that's better than maybe being fifth of five. She cannot be allowed to have the kind of power that she has right now, when she doesn't even have the numbers." Kelly tells Ben that he needs to lay off Liz for a while, because all the conflict is bringing the tribe down. Ben responds by saying he's just trying to save himself in the game. Kelly analyzes the situation "There is some major conflict between Ben and Liz. Liz aligned with me the second we swapped, but I like Ben. I do, even though he gets a bit aggressive sometimes. But one of them needs to go, because this tribe can't stay divided like this."
Later on, Mick meets up with Monica and asks her what's going on in the tribe. Monica tells him that either Ben or Liz is going home next, and she wants Liz gone. Monica explains her relationship with Mick "Mick's a smart guy and he's a nice guy. He's like my surrogate John while John's off on Foa Foa chilling out over there. Like, I don't really need to worry about Mick screwing me over, but he's really good for bouncing ideas off and maybe using a little bit down the road." Mick asks if she thinks that can happen and Monica says they'd just need one more vote. He asks her who that is, and she tells him either Kelly or Russell. Mick talks about Monica "I don't think Monica was in very tight with Galu. She's kinda like their version of Liz. And that's always good to have. It's like a little double agent spy working for me, undercover." Monica tells Mick she'll do what she can and they hug.
Reward/Immunity Challenge 6 - Into the Drink
Galu enters first and takes their spot before Jeff calls in Foa Foa and reveals that Shambo was voted out. Immediately, Russell S. turns to the girls on his tribe and tells them to throw the challenge. Yasmin nods, but Kelly and Monica just look at him sceptically. Russell whispers for them to trust him and Jeff announces what the challenge will be. The seven players on each tribe will pair off against one another and climb atop a small, floating platform. One his go, the two players in each round and attempt to knock one another from the platform, and the first player to do so scores a point for their tribe. The first tribe to four points wins immunity and a reward of the comfort items Foa Foa missed out on in episode three and the fishing gear that Galu missed out on in episode 2. The teams pair up and the challenge begins.
First up is Russell H. versus Russell S. They grapple with one another for a few minutes, although neither one seems to be giving his full effort, which Jeff points out. The platform bobs in the waves and they both fall into the water together, with Russell H. hitting first, giving a point to Galu.
Up next, Mick takes on Jaison and Jaison's height advantage actually works against him as Mick quickly knocks him off-balance and into the water, putting Galu up two to zero.
The third round pits Erik against Ben, and while Ben gives it his best effort, Erik is simply a bigger guy and knocks him into the water, making the score two to one.
Round four features John against Monica, which John laughs about and says is psychological warfare. This match isn't really even contested as John picks Monica up within the first few seconds and drops her off the edge before jumping in himself. The score is tied two to two.
In round five, Dave faces Yasmin, and the match turns out to be surprisingly even as Dave is a bit off-balance on the bobbing platform. Yasmin tells him he's going down, but she slips, losing her footing and giving Dave the advantage he needs to push her into the water, thus giving Foa Foa its third consecutive point.
And in round six, Kelly goes up against Betsy and it's no contest, as the stronger police officer pushes the hairstylist off the platform to claim another victory for Foa Foa. Jeff hands the immunity idol to Dave onshore, who holds it up high and pumps his fist as the rest of the tribe gathers their reward. Galu, in the meanwhile, heads back to camp, having lost and thus being force to send home another of their ranks.
Basking in the Glow
Upon their return to camp, Erik laughs about how happy Russell and Jaison must be, not to have anyone criticizing them for losing their heats. Jaison laughs and says that Mick only won because he knew his weak spot, and he would kick his ass in a swimming challenge. Jaison is happy with his new tribe "You know, on old Foa Foa, things were kinda hectic and nasty, but we've just got a good group of people out here now. We're winning challenges, but we're not fighting with one another. It's a lot more comforting to have them around than all the drama we had before, or with Shambo."
Russell is the only one upset about the loss, as he tells Betsy that he's worried about Ben. Betsy tells him that Ben is a strong worker and he'll be alright. Russell H. is dejected "I was trying to throw that challenge to save my alliance on Galu. We've just gotta suck harder than them next time, 'cause I ain't losing Mick AND Ben." On the other side of the coin, Dave expresses relief to both John and Erik, telling them that he was nervous about losing his heat to Yasmin for a few seconds there. John laughs and says he can't believe that Galu sent him up against Monica and says she's gonna be pissed at him when they merge. Dave laughs with him and continues to be happy "If we lost that challenge, there was a very good chance I was going to be the next one going home, because the other two guys didn't seem nervous at all. So yeah, winning that was one of the best things I could've hoped for."
Pick a Foa, Any Foa
Ben and Mick return to camp with the others, seeming somewhat dejected. Ben tells Mick that they both tried so hard, and Mick responds by saying he thinks something was up. He thinks Russell shouldn't have taken that long to beat other Russell, and that Monica being picked to go against John was crazy. Mick continues "I definitely think something may have been going down in the challenge. I mean, yeah, the odds were kinda stacked against us with five guys versus three, but still, there was something fishy going on there." Ben tells him that they both have to push for Liz to go home, because anything that keeps them in the game together gives them a better chance at making the merge.
Meanwhile, Russell gathers together his angels to explain what he said at the challenge. With Shambo gone, John, Erik and Dave were unsafe, which meant they couldn't afford to win the challenge. Yasmin says she only wanted to win for some more blankets, but she agrees with his reasoning. Russell S. explains further "Shambo was one of my close allies and they voted her out. The way I see it, I feel safer with people I know on the other tribe, like Dave and John, then I do with some people I don't know on this tribe, like Ben and Mick. It may be unfair to them, but we're all playing to win. I'm playing to win for my family. And if winning means throwing a challenge or two, I'll do it."
Kelly asks if Ben is still the target and Russell says that it might be smarter to go after Mick, because he's the strongest of the three Foa Foas. Monica protests, citing the conflict between Liz and Ben and saying that one of them needs to go home. Russell tells her it doesn't matter who goes home first if they're all going home anyway. Monica argues that they don't need to worry about Mick because he doesn't do anything. She's frustrated "Of course, the one person I WANT to stick around is the one that everyone is now targetting. That's just how this game has been going for me: first Natalie, now Mick. But I'm not taking this lying down. Not this time. I want Liz GONE."
A little later, Ben approaches Kelly once again about voting out Liz, telling her that with Liz gone, the conflict will stop and he'll be loyal to her over anyone else, even Mick. Ben describes his feelings "Right now, my back is against the wall. Liz wants me gone and Liz is in the majority. But I could easily be in that majority if I can get Kelly on my side, and I think I've almost got her mind changed." Liz then meets up with Russell to confirm the targetting of Ben at tribal council. He tells her the plan is in place and Liz is happy about this "It may be a little vengeful, but Ben is a threat. He's short Russell's ally, and he needs to go. And I'm going to do everything I can to make sure he's out of this game before he can team up with his partner in crime." Alone, Yasmin asks Kelly what she thinks the right move should be, and Kelly says that she honestly doesn't know. Kelly considers her options "It sucks for them, but a Foa Foa is definitely going home tonight. If Mick goes, Russell is happy. If Ben goes, Liz is happy. If Liz goes, Monica, Ben and Mick are all happy. I feel like I'm the swing vote, and I really don't know who I need to take out to make the best move tonight."
Tribal Council #7 - Galu Tribe
The seven members of Galu take their seats and Jeff starts off by asking about the fight that broke out at the previous tribal council. Liz says that she and Ben do not get along and she views him as the biggest threat in the game. Jeff asks Ben for his opinion and Ben tells him that "People have told me I've been letting Liz get to my head, so tonight, I'm just gonna sit back. I ain't gonna fight with her. I'm just gonna let her dig her own grave." Liz retorts that Ben's just covering up the fact that he knows that he's been beat and that he's going home.
Jeff moves on and asks Russell S. about the conflict. He responds by saying that it's difficult having two people who hate each other on the tribe and that it's putting everyone on edge. Jeff then asks him what he bases his vote on, and Russell S. tells him that he's voting for the person who is the biggest threat to his game, his alliance, and his tribe, as he always has. Jeff asks the same question to Monica, who tells him that she's thinking about who is the biggest threat to her own game, and that person needs to go.
Jeff then asks Mick who he thinks is in the best position in the game, and Mick tells him that Kelly seems to be friends with everyone and that she's the most important vote of the night. Yasmin rolls her eyes and says that the comment offended her because everyone's vote is important, not just Kelly's. Mick says he didn't mean it offensively, but he feels like Kelly's the center of everything on Galu. Jeff asks Kelly how she feels to be called out the way she was, and she says she's kinda shocked because she never viewed herself as being any better off than anyone else in the tribe. Before he ends the questioning, Jeff asks Ben if he has anything to say and Ben repeats that he's just staying quiet for once, and that what everyone else has said was pretty interesting.
With that, Jeff sends the players up to vote. Mick goes first, then Monica, then Yasmin. Then Ben holds up his vote for "Lizzy" and tells her that she's been around two rounds too long. Russell goes up, then Liz takes her turn and writes down "Ben" before saying it's about time. Kelly goes last, holds up her vote to the camera, and apologizes, saying it sucks for her choice to go out this way. Jeff tallies the votes and brings them back, reading them off:
BEN
LIZZY
LIZ
At this vote, Liz seems surprised and a bit concerned, but the next vote is even more surprising.
MICK
Mick and Ben both look at one another, and then at the rest of the tribe as Monica sighs and hangs her head.
Jeff informs the tribes that there's a tie and that the tribe will have to revote between Mick and Liz. Both Mick and Liz are in shock at seeing their heads on the chopping block, while Ben is shocked to see that he's safe. The five voters head up to the voting booth and write down their choices, returning and allowing Jeff to read the new votes:
With Monica changing her vote, Mick received four of the five votes and was called up to Jeff. As his torch was snuffed, Mick became the seventh person voted out of Survivor: Samoa. He leaves and Jeff comments on how the tribe still seems clearly divided despite the lack of conflict between Ben and Liz. With that, the tribe leaves tribal council and heads back to camp.
Mick's Final Words
Mick says he feels completely blindsided by the vote. He thought that Liz might not have been going home, but he figured he was at least safer than Ben. Overall, he feels as though he played a good game and he wouldn't change a thing about how he played, and he hopes Ben succeeds and sticks around for a while longer.
Episode 7 - Two for the Price of One
After a blindside at Galu, no one feels safe and no one knows where they stand in the tribe.
A surprising decision throws the vote on Foa Foa up in the air.
And the threat of two tribal councils puts everyone on edge as the scrambling increases to stay in the game.
