Todd Watchdog Report - Episode #5
image

This was a mixed episode for Todd in my opinion, on one hand he sort of got a cool down he needed, but on the other hand he proved what a distraction he was. I'll explain a bit later down in my report, first here's the notes on Todd I have.

-Reads the first note telling them to pick two people.
-Thinks someone is for sure going to get switched on their tribe, ZH probably got the same thing, the situation at camp is they have to pick 2 people from the other tribe.
-Thinks picking Frosti/Sherea is smart. They think Frosti/Sherea will benefit them the most since they're both tough, strong, and fast and seem like good people, but it's kind of crazy, it seems that everything you devise has to be put on pause for a moment while you figure things out.
-Asks why JR says the popular thing would be to get rid of him.
-The fact that Sherea/Frosti are coming over is exciting since he may be able to get some great bonds with them, so who knows what he can build there.
-They may have lost 2 strong people, but they also gained 2 awesome people who will fight by their sides as hard as they can.
-JR thinks Todd/Courtney/Amanda may decide to get rid of him.

Once again every drop of airtime Todd got was strategy related. He narrated why his tribe chose the people they did, and talked some about how it'll effect the game with this twist. All of this strategy talk worried me despite the fact that Todd only got an S1 this episode, look at the promo for next episode, we saw Todd doing something strategy related in it, so the chances of him getting some S0 cool down time next episode are about 0 in a million. Todd is running out of time to get some safe S0 cool down time, winners don't usually get it after like episode 6 or 7, and haven't in all the seasons I've charted, so if Todd wins he'll become the first winner to either get some S0 cool down time later in the game, or the first winner to have no S0 cool down time. Even though the last two winners have had more strategy and less S0 cool down time then other winners, I wouldn't want to bet on that just yet.

In terms of regular visibility Todd finally sort of got the cool down he needed, he was still MORish, maybe even a bit CPish, this episode, no way was he UTR. I still worry that he's been too visible and too developed too fast, people like Earl may have been very visible overall, but they had an UTR or two very early on, and got some cool down in the early episodes before they became a huge visibility monster after the swap.

At the same time however, despite Todd's high visibility, his content is really making him such a tempting pick. When I watched the episode a second time and noticed that Todd was the only one not bashing JR for working hard and trying to get his tribe to work I said to myself "oh my god, Todd's position was perfect for that event, being the only old Fei Long to not bash JR". He's gotten some other interesting content throughout the season to, such as how he was saying "I'd do anything to win", talk with Jean-Robert, his relationship with Amanda (which some have said is similar to Yul and Becky's relationship), all the stuff about why you shouldn't trust Todd yet everyone does.

Still, the fact that Todd is so highly developed so early and seems like the obvious winner to casual viewers concerns me, and after two of my previous winner picks (or at least serious winner contenders) Jonathan and Yau-Man both got their own million dollar quotes many episodes before getting voted off I'm very wary of someone who's the only person on the cast to talk about the million dollars. One thing is for sure about Todd in my opinion, he's going far, and he'll probably either win or fall just short of the F2.

Worst case scenario is that Todd begins to get all Brian-like near the end and screw a few people over, letting us to believe he loses to someone we'd never expect to win, but ends up winning after all.

I would absolutely love it if Todd turned into a big postmerge villain like Brian and still won, I'm sick of all these bland P heroes, or bland guys who start out as a villain but then go P towards the end to become a hero by the finale winning. However I'm not holding out much hope for that, I fear that the days of the villain winning are gone.
