~Dave~

Play-By-Play (all the raw notes):
Previously On: Rose hand to be leader.
First Scene: "Listen the fire has to be done properly the first time. No more oopsies like with the shelter. We need to do this right once." CONFESSIONAL: "Last night at TC, questions came up about leadership. I said heck, I'll do it. I didn't want to do but I think it's better to embrace it." Doesn't think PG's idea was good. "I don't want to start belaboruing (sp) this stuff, because it sucks time away from getting things done. PG says she and Dave work well together and that they don't compete to be leader. Erik said Dave was the top guy with PG beneath him. Then said he has a alot of good ideas but he always goes with his own ideas. "You're wishing really hard Jaime." in response to Jaime wishing to eat before they work. Stressful music in the background. "This is where it begins right here." cut to shot of him looking at his other tribemates standing behind PG. The last shot of Dave is very interesting. It shows that he's very displaced from the rest of his tribe. As someone said earlier, PG seems to be the more "acceptable" leader based on Erik's confessional and the position of her tribemates standning behind her opinion. Dave is shown as obstinate when it comes to brainstorming. His idea is the best. Negative Tone.
Second Scene: "Biggest priority is bricks." CONFESSIONAL: I have some specific goals. We still have shelter stuff to fix. Now that we have flint we need to get a fireplace going. It's very realistic and achievable. That's the way I wanna keep goals." Disagreed with Jaime on making a small fire for rice. Dropped brick and spilled mud on Frosti and Jaime. Sharea/Ashley/Jaime talk about their disagreements with Dave and how they want to eat food in order to work better. "Nothing here is wasted energy, I just moved half the stones myself, I'm not stacking bricks around a burning fire" arguing with Ashley, "Let me finish. I'd rather have shelter so that it stays lit; how many fires have you built sweetheart?!" CONFESISONAL: "I don't wanna fight with Ashley, but I can giver her a fight if she wants it." Continues to argue with Ashley. "Stop bitching!" Jaime tries to tell Dave that they'd probably get more done if they had some food in their bellies. Dave shoots the idea down. When Ashley openly complains, he starts a fight. It's interesting to note that trhoughout the fight, I found myself understanding his POV. Still, the edit showed him as confrontational and bossy. Negative tone.
Third Scene: "Wants to put bricks in there and use mud as mortar to keep them stable." Gives Ashley a list of chores. Ashley accuses him of being mean and having an attitude as he tries to give her advice on how to do the task. Sharea agrees with her. Tells Ashley to think outside the box and think critically. fed up with Ashley, he decides to take five. Ashley says he's patronizing and he's gonna shoot himself in the foot. In this scene, editing leads us to believe that he's patronizing towards Ashley. Reinforced SPV from Sharea. Negative Tone.
IC: struggled. Looked dizzy. Faultered. Frosti had to step in. He could barely stand up. Can anyone say, "Sylvia"? lol It wasn't intended to be a funny moment, but more of a dramatic one, but I was CRACKING UP! lol
Fourth Scene: They return to their tribe which was recently flooded by a storm. Frosti- "On the plus side, Dave's inferno stood up [against the flash storm]." "At least the bricks are above the water level." CONFESSIONAL: "I'm really happy I took the time to build the pit first before the fire. This goes to show that I had a sound idea and I stuck with it. It was worth the effort." Ashley glares at his confessional. THIS WAS TOTALLY UNECESSARY. If Dave was OTTN they would have ABSOLUTELY not included this pointless scene. It was thrown in here to show that even though his methods as leader is questionable, he really does have good judgement when it comes to decision-making. This scene alone should give us enough reason to rate him something other than OTTN...This was totally a Positive scene.
Fifth Scene: "I apologize, I lost my footing and rhythm. I'm sorry. Thank you Frosti for stepping up." as they get back to camp. CONFESSIONAL: "I feel really bad because we blew it, and I feel like I let the tribe down. At the same time, the last 6 days haven't been about challenges, it's been about day in and day out in camp and how you contribute and what's your attitude like," Drops of liquid on machete (tears?) as he starts a fire, "I'm fairly confident in how things will go this evenening. You reap what you sow, but I don't think I'm gone." Ashley will target him as a crazy person. Erik considers him strong despite his performance, but he/Sharea/Jaime agree they like Ashley more. Jaime says it's dead even between Dave and Ashley. I also saw this scene as positive. He's genuinely sorry for his performance and is cheered up by PG. He even compliments Frosti for stepping in at the right time. He explains his position and why he think he's gonna stay even though he lost it for the tribe. Skewing Positive.
Tribal Council: Frosti-"Dave stepped up. He's been giving commands, but I think he's trying to do everything, maybe too much." Dave-"It's a hard habit to kick," Ashley rolls eyes, "Everyone is totally welcome to ask me questions." Ashley says he always wants to play the maytr. "This is a brand new boat for me," in response to his first time leading. Jaimes says he's OTT trying to prove himself as leader and he needs to slow down. Receives tongue lashing from Sharea because the tribe works too hard and there's no bonding. "Tribe will be better wothout ashley because no one has to walk on egg shells."
Vote Shown: hard to hear what he said. Tribal Council was interesting for him as well. Despite the attacks, I don't think he got defensive at all. He gave reasons for his actions and tried to be as civil as possible. While I don't think it was a positive scene, it defintely wasn't negative. For ONCE, he seemed really humble if anything. Dave is "trying too hard...he's trying to prove him self too much." Those type of statemenst make him come off as more sympathetic.

Rating: CP
Up until Post-IC, Fave has been OTTN/MORNish. That's apparent, but they didn't have to include the scene where his ideas paid off for the tribe in the long run. They could have skipped it entirely. But we have to ask ourselves WHY add this scene? To soften his edit, that's why. He says that he's glad that he stuck with his idea and that it was worth the effort. He deeply apologies for his horrible performane at the IC and we get this confessional where he expresses deep thought over whether he'll stay or not. He says he's confident, and explains why he dosn't think he'll have to "reap what you sow". We get this weird quick scene of a machete with drops of some sort of liquid. It doesn't look right, because the angle of his hands aren't in the right position... Warrior could you please? Anyway, every scene Dave was involved in post-IC was CPish. Yeah, I know OTT/CP mix= MOR, but his edit this episode was tended to with great care! Yeah, he was really negative, but he was still really CP when viewed closer.

Visibility: 5
duh. He was insanely visible. Every Zang-Hu scene was about him and his role in camp as leader. On my excell sheet, I think it's worth noting that he was beyond a vis 5...

Tone: N
There were a lot of N moments. There was a P moment and a slightly skewing P moment, but not nearly enough for mixed. He was a bossy bitch who shot down everyone elses' ideas.

Overall: CP5N
A very disappointing edit to get, despite a decent episode one edit. I think he's entertaining too! He's a distraction, but he's one that I think will be staying along for the ride much much longer. I don't think he can win at this point. I won't cross him off my list yet, because edits that are carefully tended to shouldn't be eliminated this early. I don't know if he has the capacity to win at this point. Winners don't receive this type of visibility in one episode. I still must say that his edit is intriguing. If he keeps up the pattern of negativity and high vis, then I'll have no choice but to eliminate him.
