I don't want to read too much into Chicken's edit, seeing as he's gone and no longer a contender. But I'm anal and I strongly disagree with an OTTN rating for Chicken. Your description of his edit is too oversimplified and a bit inaccurate to what was shown on the show.

Here's a really lengthy summary of his edit from beginning to end. Watch how it develops along the way.

-STORYBOARD-

Beginning of show. Chicken gets first confessional.
CONFESSIONAL #1
"I walked in and it was an adventure for me. I'm just like a damn kid in a carnival. (mumbling) But I loved it."

Later on, the tribe tries to build shelter - Chicken voices his opposing opinion - conflict music plays in the background - the others just want to be proactive and start building - Chicken feels like his opinion isn't appreciated.

CONFESSIONAL #2
"I'm from Virginia. I live in the woods. I've got lot of experience over these characters."

CONFESSIONAL #3
"I'm just giving my opinion and nobody wanted it. So, I'm done suggesting. You know I won't do that no more."

Tribe discusses about where to build the shelter - Peih Gee asks Chicken for his opinion - conflict music plays again - Chicken doesn't give an opinion and says he's just here for the ride -

PG: Chicken, what do you think? We do the shelter instead of back here?
Chicken: Whatever y'all guys want to do, I'll do it.
PG: Yeah, but what do you think?
Chicken: *shakes head and indecisive hand gesture* I'm just along for the ride.

Next day. After a rain storm, the tribe feels down. Sad music plays in the background. The only confessional/insight we get in this scene is from Chicken.

CONFESSIONAL #4
"Last night was really wet. It's a reality check for these guys out there. But we'll try to straighten this mess a little bit. May be everybody will come together today, you know? (shrugs and smiles)"

The following shot shows Chicken hacking his machete. I'm assuming he's building the shelter? Anyway, definitely NOT an asshole scene right here.

IMMUNITY CHALLENGE
Jeff: Chicken, how's life over at Zhan Hu?
Chicken: As about as well as expected (everyone laughs) Overall, we're doing okay. We're o-okay.

Hard to hear what he's actually saying here, but the general atmosphere is a light-hearted one. Chicken = not an asshole here either.

The tribe loses. More conflict over the shelter. Peih Gee asks Chicken's opinion on how to build the shelter. Chicken says he agrees with her. Peih Gee isn't satisfied with his answer.

Peih Gee (confessional): Chicken won't given an opinion on how he thinks anything should be done. It's not worth anything to me if he chooses not to apply his strength.

The scene continues with a shift in music and Peih Gee is depicted as a bit bossy/negative by Ashley.

Chicken and Frosti talk about Ashley. Chicken doesn't think Ashley is working enough. Frosti shows empathy, but Chicken isn't sympathetic at all.

CONFESSIONAL #5
I feel like Ashley is going. That's what I'm writing down tonight. She done nothing. She layin' down there.

Before tribal council, Dave promises to keep Chicken.

TRIBAL COUNCIL
Chicken: (about the shelter) It took us two days to do that. We should have had it by dark the first day.
Jeff: Did you try to become the leader and say let's go guys?
Chicken: I'm not grabbing the bull by the horns and done that. No, I haven't. But I guess somebody's going to have to before we come together and (mumble mumble)

Jeff: Chicken, what are you going to base your vote on tonight?
Chicken: I'll base my vote on tonight the person who's done the least the last three days.
(Ashley is shown turning her head around - note the editors show Ashley again when Erik gave a similar answer. This shows that Chicken isn't the only one who thinks Ashley is lazy.)

Jeff: Chicken, how do you think you're fitting in?
Chicken: I don't fit in. You know I don't. But I'm not the one that's done the least amount of work. And you out there in the middle of the jungle. You got nothing. So, do you want the guy who don't fit in? Or do you want the guy that works? So, you know, if we don't open our eyes, we're going to seeing you a lot. (dramatic sound!)

Chicken gave the last comment before the vote. First comment and last comment of the episode.

Conclusion: Holy shit, this is one hell of an edit for a first boot! Some characters in the past don't get this much substance even if they're in the finals! Chicken has such a dominant voice in this episode, and it's not a one-note negative portrayal as some of you might think. It was a carefully crafted edit and should be CPM5!
