Kim's win was obvious from episode 1 and the editors made zero effort to hide it. The only other comparable season like that was Fiji. This season was like watching an episode of Law & Order and you figure out who did it in the first 5 minutes. Then you're just waiting the rest of the hour to hear them read the verdict. A masterful game by Kim, but let's hope the outcome isn't quite so obvious next time around.

Posts: 1 06/13/12 07:46 PM Reply Quote More Recent Posts	Maybe I should have phrased it differently - Kim had a very subtle, solid edit the first 4 episodes, which was clearly nowhere near the extremely obvious, in-your-face high-visibility edits of Rob and Earl, one of whom had a "King of Fiji" confessional early on and the other who had the entire premiere basically revolve around him despite not getting more than a single confessional. People even kept comparing her edit to Sophie's throughout that time which should speak for itself.

I never saw where fan-bias was the deciding factor in her #1 status. The edit showed us her long-range game consistently. Spotting that edit point doesn't make it fandom. You even highlight the fact that she was kept low profile for the first half, unlike Rob or Earl. But, I agree with you in that the edit tried to keep her in the background for the first half. Let's just not belittle Edgic spotting her by dismissing her choice as fandom. Peace, bro. Going back to sleep...

I bring this up because I'm in the middle of watching Guatemala and aside from M tone obviously not being around then (I hope it wasn't anyway), some of Danni's ratings are just wrong. Vis 2 in the merge, UTR1 in Gary's boot ep? People clearly eliminated her early on and then gave no thought to her later ratings.

I actually agree about Guatemala, I re-watched it like a year ago and Danni was much more visible than I had remembered, she seemed much more like an MORP overall than anything. Her edit is eerily similar to Sophie's in terms of visibility and overall importance imo (but then again SP is basically Guatemala 2.0 so no wonder).

You don't need to be all mega-statsy about it like me but I think a reconsideration of where we are now vs. then is a very very good thing. Old charts are inevitably interpreted through the lens of current Edgic norms. You might assume that an MOR then means the same as an MOR now. Or that the CP/OTT question was resolved the same way. I believe that looking back forces you to challenge those notions and reevaluate the impossible vs. the possible. Unless you've watched a season with your own "Edgic" in mind, it's a faulty assumption that the charts will map onto the features you emphasize. For the Edgic old guard, around and rating for years, many of those old seasons WILL map on pretty nicely because they had a hand in writing them. For people who have started scoring fairly recently (i.e., the majority of us), I'm quite doubtful. For example, after watching Australia over again, I really wish I had done so around the time of Samoa. Natalie's chart looks so much more reasonable to me now. I had long assumed, incorrectly, that Tina's MOR-heavy chart was indicative of regularly significant, though not in-your-face, content. It's actually not - she is on the mid-to-low side of overall visibility and much of her content (when she gets it) is sort of bland narration and camp life (especially premerge). By interpreting Tina's edit through my own lens for all these years, I've been completely off base regarding what is "possible" or hell even "likely" to happen with a winner's edit. It's actually one factor in my drop-off in Edgic participation this season. If I couldn't be sure what the old charts meant, how could I use them to make decisions about future seasons?

Then the season was re-edgiced one summer by a few edgicers (after the vis 1-5 spectrum was introduced) and Tina's overall rating went from UTRP to CPP !!! Even KQ had reservations about that BIG jump.

"There's three outsiders, that's Gary, myself, and now Lydia. But we need to bring in a 4th person, so we are gonna try and talk to Rafe and see what plan of action we can take. Hopefully it will work out otherwise I've got to look at who is in control of the game (there's a clearly editing inserted stare at Stephanie here) and play up to it. You just have to keep trying until you find something that works because I'm not gonna go home. Ends with Danni staring up at Stephanie sitting on the Mayan temple" Combine that with her usual boatload of SPV (she seriously got tons every episode) and I have her an easy CP2. I certainly don't get how anyone could say she was UTR based on content alone. If the confessional itself isn't enough I'll link you to the scene because it is undeniably meant to be a huge moment in the episode, it did foreshadow the Final 2, after all. Thanks for that link RC! I look forward to reading it/watching along during the more interesting winner seasons (god forbid I try to make my way through AO post-Jerri boot again snooze).
