Hundreds of thousands/Millions of albums at a few bucks a pop adds up quickly, hardly chump change. Millions of singles, at what, 7 cents a pop, can add up to a few hundred thousand too. Yep touring is. def better and where the money is made, but if you dont sell more than 7k of an album and fill more than, ehhh, 25% of the venue then you dont make shit. And your label drops you. James sucks and he isnt selling shit and never will because he is a pouser douche and nobody wants to hear him sing classics out of tune and act like a chode.

Yup and all of it goes straight in the label's coffers. Artists make records so they can tour. It doesn't matter whether their music is bought off the shelf or stolen in online file sharing. As long as people are hearing the new music and want to see it live. That is where the artist makes their living. The label gets pissed if they don't sell enough for the label's benefit but the artist can potentially tour for decades and never make another album.

On topic - James is touring this summer as an opening act for two bigger acts so he won't be making much money obviously.
