Don't know how many movies that are 30-40 years old I've had spoiled to me on this thread. Telling the final scene of a movie should pretty much always be spoiler-tagged, if you ask me. Saw The Hunger Games on Saturday. Liked it, especially Elizabeth Banks, Stanley Tucci, and the girl who played Rue. J-Law good too. I like how they incorporated some details learned from Book 2 into this first movie. They sorta strained credibility when heard about after-the-fact in the books, so that contented me.

Back to the Hunger Games: I met with my 'coffee pals' and one man said his daughter took her three kids to it. I just don't see this as a movie I'd want to take children to re: children killing children...thoughts? That would depend on the age/maturity level of the kids, I would think. I mean, it got a PG 13 rating because they wanted younger people to be able to see it.

The celebration of the worst in filmmaking held its Santa Monica, Calif. ceremony on April 1 — i.e. April Fools Day — for the first time, breaking from its tradition of presenting its honors on the night before the Academy Awards. And for the first time in Razzie history, one film “won” every single Golden Raspberry handed out: Jack and Jill. Yup, the Adam Sandler comedy about an ad exec (Sandler) and his obnoxious sister (also Sandler) earned Worst Picture, Actor, Actress, Director, Screenplay, and even the “Remake, Rip-Off or Sequel” award. Apparently, the film is a “remake/rip-off of Ed Wood’s cross-dressing camp classic Glen or Glenda” — a conspicuously dubious claim that’s also pretty damn funny. In taking home the Worst Ensemble award, a category decided by readers of RottenTomatoes.com, the cast of Jack and Jill narrowly prevailed over The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 1. Rather appropriately, the record-setting haul — voted on by the 657 members of the Golden Raspberry Award Foundation — does come with an asterisk of sorts. Sandler won Worst Actor, and director Dennis Dugan won Worst Director, for both Jack and Jill and the romantic comedy Just Go With It. So even in infamy, one could say Jack and Jill is a failure. I didn't find it quite as awesome as some people cause a little too much of the Japanese ultra-violence and felt pretty bleak and meaningless, but like a lot of people on this site I love stuff like this because it's pretty much Survivor in another way. Also reminded me a little of Lord of the Flies and of course it was Hunger Games before Hunger Games. I do agree with you but I've pretty much given up since most everyone just talks about everything openly. All I ask for anymore (and what I do myself) is to at least say the name of the film you're talking about before you start rolling off spoilers, so that once I see what film is being talked about, I can skip the post or read at my own risk. I mentioned that awhile back when I got something spoiled by someone talking about a spoiler in a film right in the first sentence of the post before even naming the film, and ever since then people have seemed to be pretty good about at least that. I would put all my own spoilers in spoiler tags too, but I just feel like, why bother if no one else is, so that's why I just name the film first before talking spoilers anymore. Sometimes I'll warn beforehand in a sentence though if I feel the spoilers are at least mid-level, and sometimes if it's really major spoilers, I still might spoiler tag.

I'm not usually fond of big blockbuster movies but I had to watch this movie because The Avengers trailer piqued my interest. It was your generic formulaic superhero movie so I'll comment on other aspects. The production value in terms of the tangible set pieces were top-notch. But when it came to the special effects, some scenes got distracting because you clearly knew that it wasn't Chris Evans running and chasing the bad guys but something that looked like out of a Robert Zemeckis Christmas movie. It was cartoonish. Skinny Steve Rogers was exquisite though. Those scenes they nailed. I also didn't like them making Captain America more agile like Spider-man. His movements didn't have any weight into them. The casting was very good, most notably Chris Evans himself. He embodied the all-American look while having a sense of vulnerability and all-around good-naturedness. 6/10

Honestly, I think most 12-13 year olds would be able to handle it and understand what was going on without needing it explained. Any younger and it's really a parents judgement call about their kids maturity. My 10 year old brother saw it and it turns it out was mostly bored throughout the movie.

It is by no means great nor worthy of any awards consideration, but the movie's premise is very interesting (IMDB it to get the synopsis) . It is an enjoyable watch with a fresh take on the tired romantic movie genre.
