I saw the whales too! I counted 3 Humpback whales signifying that 3 NuSalani members get over the hump (i.e., make the merge) and get to the end together.

The whales have nothing to do with NuSalani. They are just shown as a tribute to Kourtney.

That was a bad sign for the once-successful chicken killer/cooker Monica when that chicken escaped. She had lost her mojo. Plus it was doubly embarrassing for her game when Troy successfully trapped one on Salani.

joking aside, there have been some very heavy-handed, obvious metaphors with the animals before, especially the chickens. Chet comes to mind in Micronesia. His confessional about the chickens, and his tending to them, was extremely obvious...to the point where I thought he knew he was talking about himself.

Poor Chet and his chickens. Yes, it was a perfect analogy because he was eventually pecked to death, too.

The hermit crab seems to be a recent running animal symbol for obnoxious men on "Survivor." It was Cochran's symbol last season and they use it for Colton as well. Hermit crabs are sneaky scavengers that scamper from colony to colony but don't make a big impression in the end, IMO.

Plus, they've been showing the tropical blackbird recently in association with Salani when they're not cutting to bats. Blackbirds, like bats, are tough, territorial, often shy, very intuitive and they also bring good luck. St. Kim? Probably.

fwiw, I did find it interesting that Troy was featured catching the rooster (not just a chicken) last episode. Especially after being included by Matt in Matt's 'rooster/chicken' conversation as one of the roosters...dunno, I do think there's something there. Maybe a Troy/Jay thing?

And, of course, as has been mentioned by others before, Chelsea's having two chickens, one in each fist, was interesting as a possible F3 thing. But, as with a lot of Chelsea's feats, got sublimated into a tribe decision about it. I'll have to rewatch that scene of the debate about the chickens, because it was interesting. Colton talking excitedly with Kim in the background, neither involved in the convo.

Hmm... who is the hermit crab that Colton suggested Christina align herself with in Ep. 6, then? Maybe it was just irony based on his own spirit animal, but we'll have to keep an eye out for other people being associated with them in the future.

I saw alot of animals tonight. The bats came again (christina/jonas?) and two crabs (colton/alicia) then there was a turtle, moths/butterfly, a bird and a crocodile skull. I don't know what any of that shit means. lol

I don't know if we are going to see the hermit crab too often in future eps now that Colton is gone but if we do, watch out because whoever is associated with the crab, IMO, is a loser for sure.

This episode had a menagerie of animals, the most of any ep this season. In addition to (once again) the dreaded fly hitting Colton on the stomach while he was being examined by the doc, we saw more Salani bats, a lucky sea turtle and a huge swarm of butterflies, another obvious sign of change/metamorphosis which signaled the merge.

And once again, all the positive animal imagery was associated with Salani.

With Kim having her special talent it's obvious that at least every Salani knows by now which animal they would be. If one of them actually were a rat/hermit crab/bat/whatever and the editors made it known to the viewers, that could make for some interesting animal imagery.

It absolutely does. Same scary teeth, especially. I don't think it's any big stretch to say Greg winds up a carcass in the next few eps due to that one decayed image alone.

The lucky sea turtle made another appearance tonight in the form of a puzzle. Jonas and Tarzan were unable to put the pieces together and bad luck followed...but Troy, assisted by Christina, persevered and won. Just random chance that Troy ended up putting the turtle together successfully and Jonas failed? Yes. But it was a great symbolic touch for both their games. (Jeff's comp comment about Leif resembling a turtle struggling to be born was not a good sign for him, obviously.)

Whether or not Troy's lucky streak continues is unclear -- a crab was shown shadowing him on his search for the idol and the crab has been associated with Colton and Cochran in the past. That could mean Troy gets too cocky and makes a strategic mistake or has a scheming enemy he doesn't know about -- yet.

The three whales that was shown after the tribe swap but before nu-salani could signify that the final three come from nu-salani. And since it was shown before Troyzan, Jay and Kim formed the alliance, it good be foreshadowing that they are final 3
