You seriously haven't seen P&P or Atonement? They're like, required Knightley viewing. She raped all the actresses in 2005, but I'm okay with Witherspoon's win (I do feel like it was borderline supporting though).ETA: The Hunger Games was very good. Not perfect (it was rushed towards the end and they missed a lot of opportunity for some good exposition). The additions they made were really good, I thought. Hutcherson was a weak link. And I completely disagree with Plummy, the costumes and make-up were fantastic and fit the book perfectly. It all does seem a bit Willy Wonka though at times, but that's how it's supposed to be.

The hotel reminds me of cheap themed motels here in the Philippines. This all fits with Collins' vision. They are all fake and manufactured in the capital. Also, JVJ, it's cool to see Tomboy so high, even though I haven't seen it yet.

I honestly think he's not that good at line reading (unlike Lawrence, who excels really well at it) so giving him moments that are mean to be dramatic or passionate just fall flat to me. He's not a bad actor, just not a great one.

My top 2 are miles ahead of everyone else, and even though I think Ashley Rickards gave the "best" performance this year (MASSIVELY overlooked), Sarina will always be #1 this year <3

There's nothing wrong with it, but there's also nothing entirely special or "raising the bar" about it. As a lover of the books, the film was a very good adaptation. Everyone, especially J-Law was great (even if I still have apprehensions about Hutcherson because I still can't buy him as Peeta but okay), the Games part was awesome despite not being as violent as the books, I loved that they added the cutaway shots to Gale and the Gamemakers and to Haymitch - it's tough to adapt a first person narrative from one POV while at the same time trying to tell the whole story of the people and the Capitol without doing voiceovers or random character exposition, especially in THG where most of the time Katniss is by herself. I just feel like it could've been a masterpiece. They had the makings of something so epic and great, but it just settles for very good popcorn crowd pleasing blockbuster. I'm happy with the film, and am on board for the rest of the series, but they could've done SO MUCH BETTER from a filmmaking standpoint.
