I just don't get it in the current economy, I really don't. Even if it's just a "piddly" $2,400 dollar purse, instead of a $16,000 purse that Jill Zarin bought in season two that Carboy, so whole heartedly defended back then, is just decadent to me.
I don't get it, I just don't get it. $15,000 for a fucking purse could buy a whole lot of help for a charity like St. Jude's Children Hospital or any Animal Control Clinic or Humane Society in your local community.
A Birken bag......, or help for sick children or animals that desperately need a home lest they be euthanized, is a no brainer for me.I have come to dislike and disrespect all these women for the shallow, self centered, media whores they are. They could have had a voice and an impact, but they chose to stay silent, greedy and ignorant.

Vanity, greed, insecurity, competitiveness, desire to possess beauty, impulsiveness, and/or the hope that the object will make us special/desirable/superior? Not that I'm defending their gross conspicuous consumption. But it's hard to predict what one would do if one really had the means. I just hope to god I would forego the pricey but tacky too-short dresses and 12-inch shoes.

It will be lopsided without Camille, now that Lisa only has Brandi in her camp. Of course Dana/Pam will be gone as well as Kim. Neither one of them figured in the equation anyways. I wanted a new cast member that would be more sympathetic to Lisa. Kyle, Adrienne and Shana will ride rough shod over the rest of the women if they get another cast mate that "owes" Kyle for getting them the gig. I guess we'll see.

Connie, your story about your mother (sorry for your sudden loss BTW) reminded me of something I observed years ago. I used to manage a large lending department of a bank and had a wide variety of income levels reporting to me. Some of my professionals made 6 times the salary of the clerical people. I knew the situation of many of the clerical people, many of them single mothers who took their children to daycare on a bus at 6:30 am and then caught another bus to come downtown.
Anyway, in this city, the various CEO's would compete with each other to see how much they could pressure their employees to give to United Way and they compared their company's donations to the other corporations, etc. So instead of focusing on running our business units well, we managers spent an inordinate amount of time doing United Way crap. But the clerical people, who were generally supporting children on the one income, were much more generous, cheerfully pledging "fair share" while the overpaid and mostly childless yuppies did nothing but complain and give the most minimal amount and only after being pressured. I secretly hated United Way myself as this was one of the top cities in the country for the organization and they were always doing STUPID stunts like kicking off the pledge campaign by trying to get in the Guiness book by releasing the world's largest amount of helium balloons (which ended up causing huge problems at our airport and was ultimately seen as responsible for the deaths of several people) and I could never figure out what that had to do with United Way which was supposed to be a charity, but since I had to interface with our CEO I always pledged the required amount and then wrote the check out payable to Planned Parenthood and mailed it to United Way for them to forward, as it was the only way I could feel good about the donation.
I TOTALLY agree with worstdog about the Maloof dropping $5 in the kettle and feeling she has given back. There was a definite inverse relationship between income and generosity in my experience. The luckiest people tend to totally discount the role of luck in their success and credit themselves and their supposed hard work.
