In my opinion, one of if not the big determining factors is the state of mind of the person investing said hallucinogens. Bad mood going in, heavy trip that might be kind of a burden, and the polar opposite when the person isn't feeling burdened with stuff.

Never had anything stronger than mild visual hallucinations (e.g. thinking my roomie's Boston terrier was a baby cow, "seeing" music with my eyes closed). I keep waffling on whether or not to try salvia divinorum. Some of the stories I've heard are a little terrifying (same with shrooms), but I've always wanted to try a proper hallucinogen. Of course my state passed a ban on it fairly recently, so I might have to take a trip to Indiana to find some.
