I do agree with your points in general Rubber.  There are two sides to perception.  Just so you know, my points were scientifically founded with the anecdotal evidence to personalise it.  On the outside, and on first impression, my son and Cochran would appear very similar (although I think my son is more attractive, but I'm his mother).  You are correct though in that it is not my area of specialty.  The issue was covered one time during a different course of study (some years back) and became an interest of mine.  I have a number of books on the subject and find it really fascinating.  Do I believe it 100%?  No, I think there's always exceptions but I do believe in the foundation of what it's telling us and I think the Cochran example we've seen exemplifies text book issues almost perfectly.

I don't want to start a massive thread about this issue but although I agree with you that the 'who we are' part affects how people see us, it's not set in cement.  Although when we meet a new person we may initially see 'female', 'middle-aged', 'lawyer' or whatever and that creates a perception in our head based on our past experiences.  How often though, do people surprise you?  They surprise me every day - which is why I always question my first impressions.

Thanks for your comment.  (and thanks Rower - I enjoyed your take too)  If you ever have a child who is born looking a bit different or with a disability or both, make sure they know how wonderful they are - it will make a huge difference to their life!

First off can I just say, I love it when people call me Mod... or even Mods.  Don't ask me why but it makes me feel like part of the family.  I'm Australian.  Over here you only call people by their proper name if you don't know them very well or you don't like them.  It's a real struggle for me to use everyone's proper names in here.  Apologies if I'm always abbreviating.

I really like the way you think Bisquits but I'm trying to avoid responding in any depth, lest we shall derail the entire thread.    I will say that you seem to share my passion for 'people watching' and I think that sums up my fascination with Survivor.  I think it's the best place to observe human behaviour stripped back to it's bare essentials with the combination of extreme conditions and extreme competition.  I bet everyone who plays learns something about themselves.
