There's nowhere around here to sort of hide.* *Elizabeth <talking to Russell H.>: You were lying to me.* *Russell: Let me tell you, you're walking on thin ice.* *Jeff Probst <at challenge>: Liz struggling to hang on!* The wet blankets is coming to pass Jeff alluded to that having a negative impact regarding GRuss. He's in the cross hairs at Galu. Liz questioning FatRuss and Jaison moaning would put the target on either of them at F-F.

Liz is decoy in this preview, since it was just too easy to tie in her role in the challenge. (Are there really not any caves on Samoa? I thought it was the same sort of geology we've seen in some other south pacific locations, with lots of holey limestone.)

Does the chief of the tribe that wins the reward challenge send someone to stay with the losers until the immunity challenge? If so, then Galu would win the RC if Shambo is with Foa Foa again. Foa Foa would only have a RC victory and Shambo if the kidnapping became in the same format as how they did it in China. Russell S. seems to be sending his allies, or at least fellow outsiders to the opposing camp to get info & the HII, so if Shambo's there again, it's not too farfetched to think Russell sent her again. Wait, hasn't the losing tribe be hosting the visit so far this season? This would mean that Foa-Foa loses reward, no? The fact that we're back to guest visits confirms for me that Jeff's absence at the last RC might not have been planned. The bocce challenge already smelled like something that was put together at the last minute. And it kinda makes sense that the visit didn't take place because Jeff wasn't around to MC. Posts: 1582 (10/10/09 10:14 PM) Registered User More Recent Posts	RE: Jeff's EW blog this week where he raves on and on, not about Russevil this time, but SHAMBO! I don't mind his Shambo-Kinda-Lurv. It's better than reading how much he lurvs Russevil and Roach(last season, ugh). If we thought THAT was bad...Russevil is the worst...And I do search out Jeff's blog and read them just cuz he inadvertently gives clues about what may lie ahead... Is his Shambo-kinda-lurv, I like her immensely, too, clusterf**k that she is...is this his way of saying she rules, later, and Russevil...oh, no, I think I just got it...Shampoo must be the one he feigns a love interest in...WHOA! Natalie's already been shown as being too smart for that... ShamWOW certainly is a well-developed female character, goodness knows...I think she's refreshing... And y'know I think he forgets which Day In The Game he's writing about. Like slipping up about Kenny going on an ego trip, which he didn't go on until two weeks or episodes later...back in the Fong&Onion daze... So he tipped us about Natalie LAST week, then we see her come to total fruition as a character THIS week...I didn't mind that. And Natalie's great in my book...But last week and the weeks previous she was an annoying zero...well, like the rest of Galu...and... I like reading him because, yes, it's Jeff and love him or hate him, he's one of the main reasons that Survivor has become so enduring. This last episode helped CBS win the ratings for the night with 12 million viewers clocking in. So he does have a unique perspective, and at the same time, it's his baby and he's also bored with it, and yes, it's PR+PLUS, but he's now the producer of Survivor, he's got two Emmys and he has changed the direction the show, esp. recently. He likes him his villains. Roach...and now Russevil... So it's nice to seem him rave on and on about Shampoo... But GAWD the editing is weird this season! He even apologized for it. When SUDDENLY this week, there were seven more people on the show! But even then, a bunch of them, Kelly, Brett, Laura, Monica WHO ARE THEY?!?! Monica was going to be voted off and I still don't feel we KNOW her! She's cute in a bikini, but so what? NEVER has there been an underedited tribe like Galu, who WINS constantly! What does this mean? That in the end these people are just cannon fodder, and that Shampoo and Russevil team up and take THEM out, with Foo Foo pagonging Galu as if they were Timbira?!? Well, that's actually a scenario I could get behind. But with Timbira we were shown their dysfunction from the get go. With Galu we get virtually NOTHING. Maybe this is a season of Vecepias coming at us like an invisible fog...but I don't think so... Bad editing...BAD. Bad casting? And Foo Foo is NEVER put down as "one of the most losing tribes ever" But they are. If he said that out there on the Island to them, it's been edited out of the show. And his not even showing up for a challenge!?! I know he said it was scripted but what kind of mind set does THAT indicate? I say it says "I'm outta here."

This usually corresponds to the point where a show with falling ratings apparently becomes more desperate to draw in viewers. In the process of undergoing these changes, the TV or movie series loses its original appeal. Shows that have "jumped the shark" are typically deemed to have passed their peak. For me the Series Survivor seemed to evolve into better and better series basically by casting people who can play ... they solved Pagonging. But it really is the same show, same characters, same development every season. Just for grins, try to name all the Survivors from memory, hell just look them up online and try to remember them. It helps by associating the characters roles from different seasons. For me, the attraction has always been the fact that "Mark Burnett" seems to have my number ... I could never, as hard as I try predict what would happen from the promos. In almost every case I would get it wrong. They would hand clues to us on a platter and I wouldn't take them and then turn around handing false clues and I would jump right on them every time. Watching the actual show though I can easily see who is getting the boot within the first 10 minutes. It is predictable, but I will watch it anyway. Jeff not showing up for a challenge, yes it was planned. To me it was like wow, the idiots just handed us the "Jump the Shark" moment. The intent was to throw the survivors off guard with another twist, but in actuality the message is "Wow, even Jeff doesn't bother to show up for a challenge!" Ratings were down for the premier but CBS still won the time slot, by the end of the season ... who knows? Next Season is an obvious ratings grab, hope it works out. At least we are not seeing the Baldwin brothers yet which is the point where even I will go away.

Are we certain Jeff shows up for the Gross Food Challenge? That would really be another good twist to throw the Survivors off guard...that and the "Jeff's Choice" option on the Wheel. Ted McGinly would be the perfect replacement ... (OK I can't seem to let this go.) Here is another riddle, can a tribe start a fire using the fire from a candle? Sounds pretty tough to me. Yes, using a candle to help start a fire in the rain is a good technique. But you have to have something to light the candle - like a match or lighter. Can't (very, very hard) do it with flint & Steel. The candle burns well and by digging a small hole next to your tinder you can get the candle under it, dry out the tinder and get it burning. In the rain you'll need somebody to hold something over the fire to keep the rain off until the fire gets burning. Edited to add - Using flint & steel you would need to shave off some small flakes of magnesium, carefully twist a few flakes into the candle wick, scrape the rest into a small pile on a steady surface, put the wick next to the pile, rest the end of the metal match on the flate surface with the striking surface aimed directly at the pile. Or a bunch of rain collected on some big tropical leaf and then spilled in at once, almost as if it were trying to demonstrate how to capture drinking water from the sky. But yeah, no way 10 inches outside of a typhoon. The discomfort and fire problems might be more about the distribution of the rain than the amount. Do we know if the sun comes out in between these squalls? Is that brisk wind during the storm of in between? It could be that everything gets wet and doesn't dry out for a week, which would definitely get old. The press photo time stamps, btw, seem to show reward challenge on the 22nd and immunity challenge on the 24th.
