Wow, I sure picked a great race to be absent from this place.
Couple thoughts: - They should outlaw David Stremme. I mean at least Carl Long knows what "staying the hell out of the way" means. - Major yay for Bill Weber being out of the booth for the remaining TNT races. Remind me to send a fruitbasket or some such thing to the hotel employee that made him explode. - The finish. I'm not sure what to make of this whole "wreck for the win" trend we seem to have gotten ourselves into at the plate tracks. Petty and Tony both nailed it though. Tony was right on the money in saying they both did what they had to do, and Kyle had it when he said if you try and block twice, you're going to get put in the fence. Even if the guy you're trying to block doesn't do it intentionally, by the time you make that second move, he's already inside or outside your rear quarter panels and the result is inevitable. Is it sad that I didn't even bat an eyelash at the whole thing? I was almost expecting it. Like, huh...look at that, another one of these finishes. That rear bumper cam on the 18 when the 9 creamed him was the ugliest on-board footage I think I've ever seen. Wow. |

AUGH! I just found out that Tony is going to be appearing at an Office Depot on Wednesday. It's easy to get there from work -- hop on the train, then on
the bus. Trip will probably take about 45 minutes to an hour. You need a wristband and can pick one up starting at 7 am that morning, so I could leave here
ultra-early and go there before I start work at 8.
So what's the bad news? The appearance is scheduled to run from approximately 4:45 to 5:45. And with already having to take off Friday, and it being a temp assignment, there is just no way I can leave before 5:00. I'm calling the store tomorrow to confirm the appearance time. I'd try to cab it there, and I might or might not get there sooner, but about 7 miles at rush hour in downtown and the north side of Chicago, with cab rates starting at $2.75 just to get in and then something like $3 or $4/mile, plus meter charges sitting in traffic = murder on the wallet. Why, oh WHY, couldn't he have just been at the one on State Street?! That's only a 4-block walk from work! Or, if it had remained open, the one that was only about a mile from my place and about 1.5 miles from work in a less congested area?! *Creeping Ivy goes off in a corner to cry.* |

Race weekend bump! Qualifying going on right now.
I did make it to Tony's appearance yesterday after all, and I didn't even have to leave work early to do it. Door to door, I timed at about 40 minutes when I got the wristband before work. Caught a cab from the L and the stupid cabbie thought I'd said an address a mile south of where Office Depot is. I'd have stiffed him on the tip if it wouldn't have been too obvious to leave him just a nickel. Still beat the bus there. The signing was supposed to go 5-6, but I don't think I got in there till closer to 6:15. Give rep your item (I bought a 1/24 OD car for signing), go up to Tony, say a word or two, get your item back, couldn't take pics after you got to the rep. So I only got one of Tony. Fortunately, it's a good one, I think. If I ever figure out how to upload pics from the digital, I can get it up here. No, I'm not in it. I told him I got my sister hooked on NA$CAR and she likes him too. Gah. I thought of applying what I learned after all those Clay concerts to see if I could see him sneaking out the back of the store, but I would have been spotted because I wouldn't have been in a crowd of fraus, so I just left. So I guess Truex to MWR is official. Which driver is he replacing, if any? |

What.the.fuck? Did I miss the deadline to change my drivers? Is this a night race or something? They sent me a reminder that I have until 2am thursday to change my drivers at 3am on thursday. I guess they were just rubbing it in. They should have ended it with "nanny nanny boo boo." |

Ugh. I feel like I'm getting a cold... my throat has been scratchy all day and I can feel my nose closing up. I SO do not need this! It better be just a
cold and not the swine flu. Gotta go buy cat food after qualifying is over and I'll pick up some Cold-Eeze while I'm there.
Speaking of swine aka pigs... new Tony commercial! Two beauties for him and all he cares about is that turkey leg! |
