I've seen some episodes and enjoyed them, but like the movies "Say Anything" or "The Princess Bride," I'm of the wrong generation
to revere it or them.

You could get the whole series plus extras at sell.com for like $20.
I buy lots of tv on dvd there and the deals for complete series sets are great. Who cares about "official" or waiting a year and a half and paying big $$$. |

For those who aren't familiar, Daria is a smart, plain-jane, unpopular (and happy that way) girl who makes very sarcastic observations on the dumb, fake,
fashion-obsessed squealy-girls (her sister is one of them) and the jocks at her high school. (If your favorite Golden Girls character was Dorothy, then
you'll like Daria.)
For a long time, it was thought that the character was based on comedian Jeaneane Garafalo, who was very popular at the time, but Jeaneane has denied any connection. The animated story is kind of slow, but there's a more fleshed-out story than a Beavis episode. I think it's more comparable with "King of the Hill", except with a 90s grunge-based soundtrack. And I agree, there's no way MTV would debut this show today. The 90s culture was all about being different and rebelling against mainstream ideas of perfection and beauty. Today is all about cosmetic surgery, boobjobs, and blonde hair. |
