I can't wait. It'll be sooooo good. It's been a long time since the last one. I have to re read the book before I see the movie though. Better
get on that.

I did not like the 6th book that much. It read too much like a One Tree Hill script. It only started to get good in the last couple chapters.
Deathly Hollows and Goblet of Fire>>all althought the horridness of the GOF movie kinda ruined the book for me:( |

Yeah I can see this (and the next two films) being best picture nom's we're half way done this year and all of the other early oscar bait films have
flopped, I also don't see that many big films coming this winter. I think that because this is going to be Alan Rickman's big movie and that the
source material is so open that the film should turn out better then expected. I also think that voters might worry that the final two potter films won't
be any good so they will push this one up. Filling out 10 slots is going to be hard during lean years, especially if the Road turns out to be the award
winning juggernaut it's in position to be. I'm just hoping Alan Rickman finally get's an Oscar nomination, I think he's maybe the best actor
alive and working to never get one.

Should I be embarrassed that I'm over 40 and looking forward to this?
I liked the first two Harry Potter movies. Then I read the books. I was disappointed with the next three. I'm hoping for much more Alan Rickman in this one. I like everything he has done. (Well, maybe not 'Perfume'.) |

Don't feel bad, Harry Potter is for all ages!
I agree with you about the first 2 movies bein the best. I did kinda like the 3rd one after I watched it a few times. Well mainly just liked the time turning scenes. I love Snape and agree, they need to give him way more scenes. |

I'm just hoping Alan Rickman finally get's an Oscar nomination, I think he's maybe the best actor alive and working to never get one. The thing about Rickman is he's such a great Snape, I can't imagine anyone else in the role, but the Snape he portrays is different than the Snape in the books. The book Snape is genuinely wretched and nasty, and he and Harry truly despise each other above all others. Rickman's angle shows him as just kind of an Al Bundy character. It's worked great so far...Snape is still my favorite character in the films...but when the book Snape needs to shine through, so far it hasn't always worked. The Occlumency scenes in OotP played out differently than I envisioned. I'm not sure how Rickman will play the Lightning-Struck Tower, staying true to his established character while still letting the original character come out so that Snape can be believably evil until the end of DH2. I can see him strolling up to the roof and saying "Avada Kedavra" in a bored voice while checking his fingernails. I felt the same way about Luna. That wasn't the way I pictured Luna at all. But the film character was so great in her own right that it worked fine for me. In a way, those are the only two casting missteps in the entire series, apart from the recasting of Dumbledore, of which nothing needs to be said. |

Dont even get me started on Michael Gambon and his horrible attempt at being Dumbledore (although, I think his POA portrayal of Dumbledore was not bad at all).
But yeah, Rickman is such an incredibly amazing actor. I enjoy the way he is Snape. But I have learned not to compare the movies to the books. I will only be disappointed. In my opinion, they are two completely separate ways of telling the same story. I enjoy the books as books. And I enjoy the films as films. |

I'm torn about rereading the book before I see the movie....on the one hand, I'd like to have the story fresh in my mind; on the other hand, as my
husband says, I'll be sitting there pissed off about what's been left out or changed.

That's why I plan on going a couple days after it opens, and hitting the midnight showing. The herds should be thinner then.

I know I'm just going to be sobbing at this one You probably won't be unless it's because they destroyed the story. The funeral has apparently been cut. |
