Drew, from what I understand, Kayla was resisting death... so I do not think she was alive, but newly dead... like THAT makes a lot sense. And I actually liked
the jerkiness of the dance. It was when they connected, and I think THAT was the contrast.

After last week, this week's dances were AMAZING. What a difference a week made, I couldn't figure out last week which was the lesser of all evils and
this week, I had to rewatch to see which one was the worst (can't even use the term worst, they were all solid performances)
Brandon/Janette - A lot of energy, I like their chemistry. Not overwhelmed by Brandon, I like Janette in this pair. I want to ship her a case of Short and Sassy Shampoo provided that Dorothy Hamill is still pimping the product. Janette has been a pleasant surprise for me, I don't know why, but didn't expect much from her but she has impressed me a lot. Kupona/Kayla - I thought this was really an incredible dance. I loved the story behind it, I thought both were very much in character, a lot of drama, great body language. They ended up being a really good pair with each other and they were probably the perfect couple to do this routine. Evan/Randi - I didn't think this was as bad and while I was happy that Tyce didn't do the routine, it was a little slow for me but this was also coming after two really dynamic performances. I had no real issue with the performance on its own and I actually thought Evan was pretty good. Randi was okay but Evan was the focus for me this week like Randi was for me last week. I really don't think there is any way they aren't in the bottom three. Jason/Caitlin - Costuming aside (really irks me that the criticism was all about the costume and the routine since the dancers are given this) I thought this was a really really incredible dance. Caitlin has a normally very lower key personality and she really really stepped it up and while her costume definitely had my eyes going to her, her dance moves actually were really strong and dynamic and I didn't see just costume, I saw her dancing. Jason did pretty good but the focus was obviously more on the female part. I happen to like the stranger dances, I think they are a real challenge and I think they pulled this off. Philip/Jeanine - I happened to love the concept and I sure as hell am not going to criticize anything on this since I can't even begin to imagine how hard it was to dance with a chain strapped to them. It probably wasn't one of my top three but I really enjoyed it and I think Jeanine is actually holding her own in Philip's area. Ade/Melissia - I'm bias on them; for whatever reason this couple is the one I just happen to like the most. Nothing I can say about Melissia, she was gorgeous and I really think they have an excellent chemistry. Ade was at a disadvantage IMO and no surprise they focused on Melissa more but FWIW, I think he was a very strong partner and he could have looked like a big clod and he didn't. I thought the piece was very endearing from both of them. Vitolio/Karla - I am NOT a Quick Step fan and probably for the first time, I was enjoying it. Props to Jean/France-they made it very enjoyable and the song and routine were perfect. I was pleasantly surprised by them also; I thought they would both really fail with this; they were cute, did the moves much better than I expected and shock upon shock I did see what Mia was talking about with Karla but I think she's got those "eyes" that are so round that they always look a little surprised/scared so I'm not entirely sure it was because of the routine. I find Vitolio endearing and he is another one that has gone past my expectation of him. Tough week for bottom three but I'm going with' Evan/Randi - probably b/c their routine was the *weakest* of all of them but I still felt they did well. Jason/Caitlin - I really liked them but there tends to be that whole "I didn't get it, too bizarre" attitude that results in lack of votes Vitolio/Karla - I thought they were a pleasant surprise but other couples have a stronger fan base and/or their routines were just a bit more dynamic It's a toss up who goes but I think Caitlin is safe and Evan is safe |

They can't do ballet with untrained dancers for the same reason they don't do tap. It's a specific skill that requires years of training and you
can't put someone on pointe that doesn't have strong enough feet and has been practicing on pointe regularly. The other dance styles are mostly about
learning different choreography and finding the heart of the style which is different than ballet (or tap) which is specific and pure technique.
Much better choreography this week though. I wonder if they've held all the good choreography for later in the show. Hopefully next week we get more dancing in the two hours. The final dance with the credits was hysterical though, it kept going on and on and on |

And the two together just look like Carlton Banks and Iola Boyland dancing together. It looks creepy, odd, and I just can't stand them. Does Brandon have to dance so damn GAY??? It's too much! Who I want in the F4 are Melissa, Ade, Kayla, Kupono Who I think will be the F4 are Melissa, Brandon, Kayla, Kupono/Evan Yes... I am back on the Pono love train :)

If we have to suffer through dancers failing on watered-down, generic Krump-lite, they can do the same with ballet...

For me, Janette and Brandon absolutely smoked their Cha Cha Cha, although there was some weird moment where I couldn't tell if they missed a lift or if it
was choreographed that way. I will have to give them props for covering so well if it was a bobble. The most impressive thing for me was that it had no really
flashy elements other than the brisk pace, and they still absoultely nailed it into the wall.
I thought that Caitlin absolutely OWNED her dance, as weird as it was. For someone who spent weeks dancing a bit tentatively, she really threw herself into it and it was the best thing she's done on the show so far. Jason, OTOH, wasn't much more than a prop, but a lot of that will have to fall on Brian Friedman. Anyone who remembers Ashlee & Dmitri's Ballerina and soldier dance from season 2 knows how weird Friedman's dances can be. Mary open dislike of Brian's choreography parallels Dan Karaty's dissing of that dance from season 2. Apparently, you can't openly criticize the choreography unless it's from Brian Friedman. I didn't appreciate Melissa and Ade's pas de deux nearly as much as the judges did. Melissa was okay, the choreography was meh, but Ade was lumbering and heavy footed. The lifts looked awkward, partly because of Ade and partly because of the choreo (why was Melissa bent-legged with her ankles crossed in the last lift? It looked gangly). No big deal for me -- watch this pas de deux to see what real ballet dancers can do: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PDdtnKuxfFU I don't really like Sonya stuff, it all looks samey to me. Kayla is so devoid or charisma or personality or looks that I can't even tell if she's dancing well or not because I barely notice her when she's dancing and I cannot remember a single thing from her performances. So this was a double-whammy for me, a boring, unmemorable performance that didn't look different from any other Sonja job. In five seasons, I've never been so underwhelmed by a dancer as I have been by Kayla. I don't even dislike her -- she's just a non-entity. I loved Phillip and Jeanine's hip hop because of the really tight synchro parts. Most hip hop dances lack flashy lifts and holds -- what really gets my attention when I watch hip hop are the intricate synchro parts. So I loved this one. About five measures into Brandi and Evan's Broadway, I realized that it was already 10,000% better than anything Tyce has done, so I loved it from start to finish. The judges' critiques elicited a shrug from me -- I didn't see any of the flaws they were pointing out (I didn't even see them on the replays). Great, great, bullet-proof choreography. Have this lady back and let Tyce (if he has to choreograph anything) stick with contemporary. Karla and Vitolio were good, not great. This was another case of bullet-proof choreography -- it may have been better for them to take some of the time away from nailing the steps to getting the performance level higher. A bit underwhelming in that department.

suckshardcore wrote:Big fat red X to this. She wasn't as bitchy as she usually is, but she's still horrid. Why didn't they just put a big red arrow over Karla and Vitolio to let everyone know who they want gone this week? Putting them last after two commercial breaks and their infomercial, plus giving them the dreaded quickstep. However, they actually did well; one of the better performances of the evening. They'll probably still be bottom three, though, and if that's the case they're both toast. It'll be too bad for Karla, because I think she's been better than both Caitlin and Randi, who I find to be incredibly overrated. I can't get into Melissa and Ade because it seems like they've done the same routine every week. I want to see them something faster, such as a hip-hop, disco, samba, etc. And while they're at it, how about a dance that showcases Ade? Most of the time, Melissa has been the focus. If Ade is as good as they say he is, let him show it. Speaking of hip-hop, I'm starting to get bored with N&T's overly literal choreography. The chain was a poor idea, because it became the focus of the dance, and I was worried that Jeanine and Phillip would hurt themselves being connected to that thing. I won't comment on them getting hip-hop twice in four weeks because enough has been said about it. Right now the couple to beat is Janette/Brandon. While they've had a few missteps, every one of their routines have been enjoyable and those two know how to put on a show. It's tough to predict the bottom three this week, but I'll try anyway: Karla/Vitolio (it's inevitable) Caitlin/Jason (another one that seems inevitable) Randi/Evan |

I get a Shelly Duvall vibe from Janette:
That fact that she wants to be in finance and the frumpy, no frills hairdo leads me to believe that she's low maintenance and down to earth. Yet another reason to like her. When I see Melissa, all I see is old. She's only 29, but she looks like one of those forty-somethings with zero bodyfat who work out all the time trying to cling on to their youth. The choreography as a whole was sooo much better than last week. |

Melissa doesn't look old at all. I laugh when they refer to her as the old lady, or on the show when they make a big deal out of her being the oldest ever.
It's stupid. I know dancers don't have long careers usually but she isn't decrepit.
That hair doesn't suit Janette, it's very distracting. |
