Have any of you ever flown ALLEGIANT AIR? |

My wife and I are taking our yearly trip out to Arizona at the end of August, and we decided to fly this time instead of drive. Now I hate the bullshit that
goes along with flying (I've only flown twice since 9/11) but the prospect of 3 extra days in Phoenix was too great to pass up this time. We're flying
Allegiant Air, a small airline serving mainly 2nd-tier cities and airports. I chose them because the fare was pretty good ($158/pp round trip plus taxes &
fees) and because they fly into Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport instead of Sky Harbor...Gateway Airport is about 15 minutes from my buddy's house and very
convenient. On our end we fly out of Rockford instead of O'Hare, which is ok because Rockford airport doesn't charge anything for long-term parking so
I'm saving a bundle there too.

Yes. You have to wear a propeller beanie and flap your arms the whole time to keep the plane aloft.

And that's only because they don't have a decent treadmill.

It's very basic - don't expect a drink and pretzels. They tend to have ONE person checking you in so take a book to read in LINE.
Um....Phoenix in August? REALLY!!?! |

My son just flew down to San Diego on Allegiant Air....he made it. So far that's all I know.

Yes. You have to wear a propeller beanie and flap your arms the whole time to keep the plane aloft. I have seen their MD-80s at the airport, so they don't fly prop planes. Have fun landing in Phoenix in August though. Buckle up! |

You guys can quit razzing me about going to Phoenix in August...the heat doesn't bother me, in fact I welcome it.
Worstdog I've checked Allegiant's website...nothing is free but they do have lots of refreshments to purchase. But I'll be sure to pack a couple of candy bars in my carry-on! |

Seriously, why would you skimp when it comes to airplanes? Hotels, I can somewhat understand. But a gigantic machine that is going to take you 30,000 feet
off the fucking ground???

Yes I have. From Allentown to Florida. They were fine but they charged per bag and you didn't get an assigned seat until check in. And I think the fare
was like 79.00 each way + taxes. CHEAP.

Eury its an MD-80, which I've been on before. Now if it was some plane by some manufacturer I'd never heard of...then I'd think twice.
Rachel that's exactly what our fare was. We're only checking one bag apiece and the no assigned seats thing doesn't bother me...had that on Southwest. |

You guys can quit razzing me about going to Phoenix in August...the heat doesn't bother me, in fact I welcome it.I wasn't referring to the heat, per se, as much as the thermals causing a rollercoaster ride on landing. It's fun, actually...unless you are a nervous flyer. The worst time to land is probably around 3:00 PM. |

Not a nervous flyer at all...I just hate the TSA bullshit and having to show up so far in advance of a flight etc. Once I'm actually on the plane its all
good. Our landing will be about 4pm Phoenix time.
However, I just found out that the Rockford airport has a dedicated smoking lounge in the terminal so I won't have to keep going outside and through security over and over. That makes that part much easier. |

That's good--you'll enjoy it then! No smoking at Sky Harbor though. They will throw you out on the runway for that.

Ahem...re-read my lead post Guppie. We're flying into Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport (formerly Williams Field Airport), NOT Sky Harbor. Once I get off the
plane I should be through the front door of the terminal in less than 5 minutes.

I can tell you this, Allegiant Air is a million times better than Air Asia.

CRA- about the TSA recommending you get there 3 hours in advance, this is just a guideline. If you are checking baggage you are fine as long as you are
checked in 45 minutes prior to flight time. I imagine Rockford is a much smaller airport and shouldn't have a long security line. I travel alot, and I am
never there more than an hour in advance.
