my dvr cut off the end - can anyone tell me the outcome of Nicky's (I think that was her name - black mom with 2 girls that lived with their grandmother?) stint at rehab? I saw that she left after 23 days and her bf paid to fly her home but right as another screen was coming up it stopped... I hate that! |

Yeah. I didn't have much hope for Bret but I didn't expect that kind of an ending.
Esophageal cancer is quite common with the alcoholics though and it's one of the more fatal kinds because it's not detected until it's too late. My best friend's mom (who was a drunk) had esophageal cancer. Though she survived it. She died of something else alcohol related! |

Damn, I only saw the last 10 minutes or so, and it had me crying like a baby. And then at the end when they stopped the "uplifting" music and said he
had cancer, I thought they were going to say he went back to drinking, not that he died. At least he got to die with his family around him instead of alone and
drunk, I guess.

Just now getting around to watching this on the DVR. Bret was a douchebag to his kids; they deserved so much better than his actions at the intervention.
I'm sort of believing they may be better off without him around. I didn't get the impression that he gave a shit about anyone other than himself.

I don't think he would have stayed sober. I think he would have crushed those kids' hopes yet again within 2-3 months. It's tragic he died, but I
was happy that the little kid was least able to cling to the final memories of his father being good ones. When he said "he didn't die an alcoholic,
he died a dad" I totally lost it (as I am now just writing that line) and cried like a baby for about 10 minutes. My heart broke for that kid. His
mother looks to be a good one and a supportive one and hopefully, she'll get him help, support, whatever. Ditto with her daughter.
