It's not like they are working in a sweat shop sewing knock off clothes, or sent up chimneys to clean them, or even having to memorize lines and pretend to cry or be murdered in a movie.
There are cameras there filming them doing whatever it is they would be doing anyway. In return, they have had both parents home with them, a nice place to live, good food to eat, clothes to wear, and all kinds of special treats. The main one is that they weren't stuck in some low-rent crowded but affordable day-care center all day, only to be picked up by an exhausted (from working all day) parent, spending (at best) a few hours in their presence while dinner was prepared, clothes washed, baths given, food eaten, and put to bed, probably while listening to mom and dad fight about bills and worry about how to afford to get new tires for the '86 Dodge van.
I think that they are "being paid" in all kinds of ways, but I do agree that some actual money should be dedicated to the individual children, perhaps as college funds.
