ZOMG!!! starrider crashed MetsBlog!!! Start reserving your World Series tix now, Phillies Phans:
Yesterday on WFAN, here, Jerry Manuel again said that his short-term goal is to simply keep his team above .500, setting them up for a run once players like John Maine, Oliver Perez, Jose Reyes, Carlos Delgado and J.J. Putz return from the disabled list. Last night, I was sent tons of e-mail from fans who feel the same way as Brendan Bilko of Priced Out of Citi, who argues that setting the bar at .500 is simply settling for mediocrity. Their argument, in short, is that this is no way to lead a team. Frankly, I believe Manuel is using right approach. He is simply trying to create a sustainable, manageable environment. I do not believe that just because Manuel said, '.500,' these professional, major-league players will not only want to win every other game. These men want to win every game they play. To me, he is simply creating a reasonable atmosphere given the injuries, this way the team can over-achieve, believe in itself and build momentum.
Manuel is wise to create a fight-for-your-life, survival mentality, and use that to his advantage. I like that the Mets have taken on an under-dog vibe, which is a style I am far more familiar with. The risk, however, is that when Delgado, Reyes, etc., and rest of the cavalry return, if the team does not go on that magical winning streak he expects, then what does he say? |

Frankly, I believe Manuel is using right approach.I do too. You can't clinch the division in June. He's setting a managable short term goal. Nothing wrong with that. |

Normally this would be a good thing but..
How in the blue hell do you let Paulino and Uggla go yard in the same inning? I didn't even know the Fish could hit lefties. |

The Fish can hit.
If they ever start doing something besides just hitting home runs, they'd be darn scary |

You can get runs without hitting home runs every time? :o
I know they can hit.. it's just that they usually suck against left-handers. They made freaking Jorge De La Rosa look like Johan Santana (pre-slump/injury/whateveritis).

O's are the softest part (sic) of their schedule from last week until AS break. Loaded with powerhouse teams/winning teams. I'm thankful I was at a business meeting and didn't hear/see the meltdown. O's have some bats. Huff has been killing the Mets. Best way to shut Huff down is to trade for him. And last. Today/yesterday? is the one year anniversary of the Willie Sack and the ushering of the Manuel Era. (Jerry, not Cholly) Only the Dodgers and the Brewers have better records than the Mets do during the Manuel Error. |
