Honestly, I think Buddy said it best when he said she was fair. She is very criticical, but when she gives a compliment it means something. I think Patrick
Coston can be kind a picky. For example, he often criticizes color choices when the competitors are following the instructions of the client.

This show was great fun. I just want to know what Stevie was smoking/ingesting/shooting up/whatever that she felt her cake or the state of her kitchen or her
performance was acceptable. When they showed Jason's pristine cake and then Stevie's hot mess of a cake (just before she set fire to it) and she said
"we're just putting the finishing touches on it", even my husband -- who wasn't paying that much attention -- burst out laughing
Don't want to spoil for those who may catch it on rerun, but I agree with the choice of the winner. I will spoil enough to say that Cake Boss Buddy is an outstanding technician, but really doesn't have any artistic vision. IMHO, it's why his cakes are always nice to look out but don't "wow" you, like others' cakes might. I agree with Buddy, jasbel, that Kerry is fair, but I think she's sometimes too critical too quickly. It would be nice to see her sometimes hold back until a cake is more developed before she comments, but that wouldn't be very good TV. |

OMG I saw Stevie on another Challenge and she was just as crazy. I think she has great vision but can't execute. I mean the sketch was really
interesting, but clearly not a Kerry piece. LOL she truly wanted to set the cake on fire in the end.

Not sure what this refers to ^^^
Anyway, I rewatched the mystery birthday cake challenge and I wonder whether Stevie was doing "performance art" and never intended to actually make an attempt at a serious birthday cake. I kept wondering why she was using such small narrow pieces of cake that couldn't help but break up as she jammed them down, as opposed to putting down a coupla large pieces of cake and sculpting them to the form she wanted, putting in dowels to stablize and then covering it all with fondant. And where in that photo were drips of liquid sugar and chocolate all over the cake? and why put the candles inside the cake instead of sitting on top. It all seems overly chaotic in retrospect. Granted Stevie is chatoic, but this time it seemed easy not to be. Her sketch was very simplistic. In any case, it was just as good on a 2nd viewing as it was on the first. I hope they put this one on an endless repeat loop! |
