I hate the mentality that you have to work in the big city, even if that means driving 1.5 hours each way. A friend of a friend just has to live in Dallas but lives out closer to East Texas. So he drives 2.5 hours each way every day, but thinks he's awesome because he's got a nice house in the middle of nowhere.

I have been in the 1.5 hour each way commute hell before, though, so I really REALLY appreciate not living on the freakin' road.

I had the office in the house for 2 years after my daughter was born so that was sweet. My old job was 50 miles door to door. When I first started I could get to work in one hour by the time I quit it took about an hour and 45 minutes. If I still had that job it would definitely be a two hour commute. We sold a house to a couple who each commute two hours each way each day -- he goes south of Chicago, she goes well into Wisconsin.

Unfortunately, the real estate market where I live has tanked. Even if I were willing to sell for what I owe (with the idea that I just want to break even and get out), nobody's buying. But hey, Wyl? If you'd like to buy my house for what it might have sold for 2 to 3 years ago, it's on the market tout suite.
