Aren't you being a little too literal? You're assuming pimping is needed to get the bois, tweens, and fraus to realize that Kris is cute. Himbos never do well on this well. The "good-looking" guys on this show are invariably the asexual and inoffensive My First Boyfriend types (Kris, Jon-Peter Lewis, John Stevens) or creepy-weird types (Clay, Elliott, the two Davids). Chiseled, square-jawed, muscular Abercrombie & Fitch types never do well on this show for some reason.

All this is really saying is Kris might have gotten through whether it was a Semis format or a Group format. I pretty much think the same for most all of the Top 12's we've had, except for where the fodder is concerned. And for them, I could care less which make it to the Top 12 and which get eliminated in the Semis/Groups. I really just don't see any compelling evidence to suggest Semis > Groups. It's just a preference.

However, in the other format, I think it's moderately likely that Felicia and Kristen and Ju'Not may have made the finals and quite likely that Whore-Gay and FaFu 2 wouldn't have. IMO, that's pretty compelling evidence against groups...

Besides, with Semis, it would have been a Top 24, rather than a Top 36. Felicia probably would not have made Top 24, since she was a last minute replacement. Who knows about those others. Speculate speculate speculate.

And perhaps do the same for those in the Groups/Semis that didn't make Top 12. Just to see how the seasons with Groups compared to seasons with Semis. But it turns out so subjective who should/shouldn't make it, that ends up being more of a fantard exercise.

I know I tend to miss people who didn't make it in on group years more than people who got eliminated early on the other format, but who knows. If we'd had the other format in the years with groups and the people I missed (Felicia or anybody else) got more chances to perform, I may have wanted them gone, too...

I wish they'd do a combination of the 2 formats. 2 groups of 12 girls/boys, but have the top 2 of each group get through instead of the bottom 2 being eliminated. Do that with the remaining 20, then the remaining 16 and you have a top 12. That way people would have to stand out to get into the top 12 at the same time the fodder would get more chances. The format this year sucked because we all knew who was going to get through based on pimping and nobody else had much of a chance. Allison and Kris were the only ones who made it against the odds. But the worst thing was the judges pimpees wildcard round. They should've let America decide instead (at least half the wildcards). We all knew who was getting through before they even sang.

That could be interesting because the ones who get in week one (presumably the best/most liked/most pimped) have LESS performances, so it gives others a chance to gain ground on them... On the other hand, would we REALLY want to have to hear some of the shittiest semi-finalists sing THREE TIMES?!?!

I know that in the 8 past seasons, I can say that Johns is about the only finalist I thought "sexy" in a more traditional, manly way. I guess some might say Bo Bice or Daughtry might be but they're not Abercrombie & Fitch traditional good lookers.

Last season, most of the talented singers were in Group 2. If you were in Group 1 or 3, it was easier to advance than if you were in Group 2. I like the idea of letting people in each week, and letting the entire pool compete until the the top 12 are selected.

Reply Quote More Recent Posts Message Connection Block Invite	People have made very good points about Felicia having no chance whatever to be in if there was a top 24 (ouch!) and Michael Johns being unique on the show as a traditional hunk type. I will add to that the observation that an amazing number of the guys on the show have been really short. In just the last 3 seasons of the top 2, Archie, Blake and Kris have all been 5'3" or 5'4" Even Bo and Daughtry were only about 5'7." I also want to agree that Kris would have made the top 12, regardless of what format the show had. He wasn't that great on group 2 night but got voted thru over some respectable guys anyway (Kai Kalama, Matt Breitzke). As far as being forced to see terrible singers 3 times in a top 24, it's actually a lot of fun much of the time (Janay Cantsing is a great example). And it's a LOT better than having them actually make the top 12! I agree with Screerider that trying to pick who'd have made it thru a top 24/3 week elimination this year quickly becomes a fantard exercise that won't convince many people either way. But After watching this season, and seeing just how many utterly untalented singers made it to the top 12 this year (Michael, Megan, Scott, Lil, Matt, Danny) I can't understand how anybody in Sucks can defend the curent format.

IMO the group format works better for unpimped, super talented performers, like Kris, Allison and even season 1 Kelly Clarkson who step up and blow the pimped ones out of the water. I prefer the one shot at the top 12 format because honestly when they do the semi rounds, by the time they get to the top 12 I'm sick of most of them already and it makes the show seem like it lasts forever and a day. With the semi format they just have to coast through week after week and none of them give their best performances and IMO, if you can't give your best performances under that kind of pressure you don't belong in the top 12 anyway.

I almost gave up the show permanently after having to watch him perform twice. Once more would have pushed me over the edge...
