However, I found a news story saying Shipwrecked is on the rocks, and probably won't film in 2009. http://www.dailystar.co.uk/posts/view/77375/Shipwrecked-faces-the-credit-crunch-axe One explanation for the back to back occuring to me, is if you read the news story Volcanic Glass linked on page 17 of the Survivor 19 topic, it says the owners of this still undeveloped piece of land in Samoa bought it to build a resort, now to be named the Survivor Samoa Resort. They want to open in 2010. They have leased it through October. It's all in the news article VG posted. Obviously they need Survivor to finish up in order to build the resort, so maybe don't want it sitting unused for three months as the normal schedule would require.

It could also be budget cuts, lessen the time frame for set up/production by splitting the crew between two locations at once means less $$ if people are being paid by the day/hour/time. I mean you gotta figure they're there a month/two months ahead of time to set up and film, so if theyre setting up while theyre already filming the first season, that's less overall time they have to pay people for 2 seasons worth.

It also sounds like the back to back is thwarting his goal to get episodes filmed, so maybe "they" wanted it done back to back and he had to comply. Hard to tell.

Although this year ponderosa is just the resort, so they could probably just keep them in their hotel rooms. If Jeff plans to be back by the end of September, that would mean (if they started like they usually do--June 23rd or so) he would literally have just a few days in between the two seasons. If they're definitely staying in Samoa then the props for each season will probably look virtually identical--and two DIFFERENT tribal councils? Should be interesting to see the differences.

Samoa isn't very far away from the Cook Islands, Fiji, Tonga etc. They could get 80% of the crew to film S19 while the other 20% get one of the other islands ready, then after filming hop on a plane and start shooting S20 the next day.

Posts: 3177 (06/10/09 04:40 AM) MESS member Reply Quote More Recent Posts	A back-to-back filming of Survivor doesn't necessarily have to happen in the same location, but I think logistics dictates that it has to happen at least somewhere near where the last one was filmed, so I'm guessing somewhere in the western Pacific. I'm guessing that once the production staff from Bulgarian Survivor packs up from Caramoan Island (Philippines), then MAYBE Survivor 20 could be held there.

Looks pretty strong. They are pretty good at making the same area look different. For example, Drake and Mogo Mogo were in the same general location, but looked dfferent.

If Season 20 is the highly rumored All-stars 2 that Probst was pushing for, this would give the season 19 contestants that might participate absolutely no time to recover if they were selected to play again. Furthermore it would give producers no time to select the best characters since the show wouldnt have been edited yet. I also considered maybe it was All-stars and thats why the schedule was bumped up... maybe some of them cannot participate later in the year but could only participate earlier. Maybe this is also why theyre so confident in bumping it up, knowing who they want already as a cast and knowing most of the variables athead of time. Technically they could even pull a fast one and have the 2nd season filmed air as season 19 and the 1st season filmed as season 20.

For the past few seasons, he has traveled out to location pre-show, interviewed contestants, and participated in the first challenge with the press. Normally filming starts around June 24thish... but perhaps they are beginning earlier this year to give them a little more time between seasons if they are filming back to back. He states: "Holly Montag will likely join the show tonight, and I will likely remain grateful I am not being forced to sit through all of this because I'm in a faraway land until mid-week next week." So maybe the contestants are already on the way to Samoa, and filming will begin earlier then usual...

It would be stupid to do Survivor Samoa 2. Since they seem to be spending some time with casting b/c of the casting calls perhaps it will be another FvF(possibly they are hoping for a fan winner the second time around and will actually cast 'fans' that are going to play) or maybe a Fans vs Winners(but they would have to come up with at least 4 female winners willing to play again). Have there been any casting calls in the last week or so? Are there any scheduled in upcoming weeks? If we don't see any then we are likely getting another ASS season. The recent calls could hae been them filling some last minute slots for S19.

So perhaps he's in Samoa doing his pre-season interviews with the cast and such, like he did during Gabon & Tocantins (and Micronesia?).
