Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Foundation appreciates the outpouring of support from our friends in Chicago and all over the country following our decision to decline the offer to be Patti Blagojevich's designated charity on the television show "I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here."

Over the last 17 years, we have worked tirelessly to raise money to fight pediatric cancer and provide hope to those families touched by this devastating disease. Generous and committed people have contributed the critical support, both emotionally and financially, that has allowed this organization to grow and truly make a difference in the lives of children and families fighting cancer. Children will not be turned away because we did not accept this contribution. Unfortunately, the U.S. Attorney for the Northern District for Illinois alleges that children did suffer because of alleged conduct of Gov. Blagojevich. Children's Memorial Hospital's CEO Pat Magoon showed great integrity by refusing alleged extortionate overtures from then Gov. Blagojevich and his brother who were withholding badly needed state funds for pediatric specialist physicians caring for poor children. While we believe everyone is entitled to his day in court, until that criminal proceeding is concluded, we will stand by our partner Children's Memorial and decline to have our hard earned reputation for caring for children put at risk.

Despite these hard economic times, we continue to stand by the values and principles our organization was founded upon. We will only work harder at raising the funds to meet the needs of the families we serve. We will do so like we always have-with integrity.
