I'll be annoyed if that's the case. I still tear up when Locke stands up for the first time at the end of the eppy. TOQ did such a great job with that.

I also watched Walkabout, since it was on the same dvd. Watching it now after season 5 ended you'd almost swear he'd been taken over the moment he landed on the island. Especially the way Tabula Rasa ended with the creepy music and his sinister look.I thought Locke was a creepy mf from the beginning. I'm probably the only viewer who didn't feel sorry for him at all when I saw him in the wheelchair. I DID start feeling sorry for him later on. A couple of episodes before the S5 finale he started creeping me out again. I agree TOQ is a great actor. It takes a damn good actor to skeeve me out without pushing me to the point that I can't stand watching him. So we move on to disc two this weekend? |

I remember someone saying that during season five when Locke is back on the island he looked different, like he was cleaner than everyone else. I don't
remember who said it (maybe fluffy), but I thought the same thing about Locke watching the first three episodes. I wonder if there is anything to that. The
only thing creepy about Locke so far, is the music at the end of episode three. I thought he seemed like a really nice guy when he found Vincent and had
Michael give him back to Walt.
Also, I thought this was an interesting line from Jack, "It doesn't matter, Kate, who we were - what we did before this, before the crash. It doesn't really-3 days ago we all died. We should all be able to start over." I like that line because I think it took Jack a long time to really believe that. I don't think he really believed it until he left the island. |

I watched White Rabbit, and it's interesting because this time around I knew that Jack really was seeing Christian. So Jacob/Esau as Christian
lead him to the water. But, Christian's casket was empty where Locke's casket still had his body in it. I suppose Christian's body could've
fallen out at some point, but otherwise this seems to be an inconsistency unless one of Jacob/Esau took Christian's physical form but only assumed the
appearance of Locke.
Other things: I had forgotten that Boone stole the water, and I loved Sawyer's line about Boone taking his spot as most hated guy on the island. During Locke's conversation with Jack after saving him from falling off the cliff, Locke said "I looked into the eye of the island and what I saw was beautiful". I'm assuming this is a reference to Smoky. That conversation was also another good one for the science/mysticism and chance/fate argument that Locke and Jack have throughout. |

I haven't watched the second disc yet, maybe this evening. Weeds S4 is out tomorrow so Lost will have competition.
eta - I just watched White Rabbit. One of my favorite episodes. Period. John Terry was/is the perfect actor to play Jack's father. He even sounded exactly how I would expect Jack to sound as a father - how he would have sounded. I don't think Jack will be that kind of father now that he believes in something more than who he can save or fix next. "When you fail.. you just don't have what it takes." Ouch dad. Love the music that started playing when Jack found the doll and started following the trail... it was also playing at the end. I've always thought of that part of the score as Jack's Theme. 46 survivors left in this episode. How many are left now? Are any of the extras still alive? "Light Comma Sticks" : D Claire wasn't wearing much makeup. She must have found a big ass stash. Jin was a prick. This was the first episode I didn't find island Locke creepy - first time I actually liked him. I did like him in his Walkabout flashbacks but not on the island.

I had totally forgotten Charlie and the bees led Jack and Kate to Adam and Eve. Jack said the skeletons had been there 40-50 years for the clothes to have
degraded that badly. Sooo A&E died between 1954 and 1964? Kate saying "I don't want to be Eve" almost convinces me she is. But how the heck
did she or any Lostie die in 1954/64? I know we've been smacked over the head with time travel but I've always wondered if it was reincarnation
instead?
At any rate, this is one storyline that BETTER not be dropped. Loved the montage at the end. Perfect song for this episode. Oh.. and Jin is still a prick. |

It's possible that A&E have only been dead for 30ish years but it looked like 40 because the humid jungle climate sped up decomp.

I'm a bit behind, so forgive me. We just finished S5 last night so watched Pilot P1 & P2 and Tabula Rasa tonight. Will watch Walkabout and White Rabbit
on Wednesday and House of the Rising Sun and The Moth on Thursday and be caught up with y'all.
Thoughts/observations on first three eps: Pilot P1: 1. Hugo, who eventually ends up being a chef in Dharmaville, is running around passing out airline food to the survivors. 2. Greg Grunberg looked quite a bit chunkier than when he started Heroes. Pilot P2: 1. Charlie calls himself a coward when talking to Kate on the way back from the cockpit. But we now know that eventually he is one of the big heroes. 2. Michael and Jin are going to have a fight soon. However, in this ep we see Jin be a total prick to Sun (making her button her top button, slapping her hand away from the "sushi," and stalking off with the tray by himself) and immediately after we see Michael chewing out Walt for not staying on the beach and telling him that when he says something he means it, followed by "You understand?" These two guys are very much alike in that they are both controlling in their relationships. 3. When Kate gets ready to make the hike to see if they can find a radio signal Jack tells her if she sees or hears anything to "run." Jack doesn't know, at this point, that Kate is a fugitive and that she is a "natural runner." 4. When Locke is explaining backgammon to Walt he says, "Two players, two sides, one light, one dark." In P1 of The Incident, at the beginning Jacob and Anti-Jacob (I guess we're calling him Esau?) are shown, one in light clothing, the other in dark. Two players, two sides, one light, one dark. Tabula Rasa 1. Tabula Rasa is Latin for "blank slate." Latin is the "language" of The Others. 2. Also, Jack mentions to Kate that everyone is starting over, implying a "blank slate." That's all I got. edited for typos (yeah, twice - so I'm OCD)

I'm not following along with the DVDs but I have been catching reruns on Sci-Fi. Last week they showed Michael's first backstory & how he came to
get Walt. One thing I noticed was the sound effects. When they are all sitting on the beach the noises of birds, frogs, crickets (regular jungle sounds) are
almost deafening. In EVERY island scene. Over the course of the show they toned down the background noises possibly to draw more attention to the whispers.
It was kinda funny listening to all that stuff. It was so not necessary. And it was overdone. |

Another thing that struck me this morning is how interesting it is to watch Sun earnestly struggle with communicating. I say earnestly because she understands
what everyone is saying, but can't speak to them in English. Of course, we didn't know that at the time, so watching her now is interesting.

I had always thought that Boone asking for pens was 1. A way to get Boone out of his face & 2. A good way to show how Boone reacted to the stress from the
crash. You know everyone reacts differently & he was desparate to do something. I think that is pretty much how Boone acted. It seems that he was the
problem solver in his & Shannon's world but it was usurped by just about everyone.
Shannon was horrible. Couldn't stand her & I was peeved that Sayid ended up with her! While Micheal was not my favourite character, in season 1 the awkwardness of this new responsablility he gave up was well done. I know we aren't at season2 yet, but in Adrift when he is calling out for Walt gives me chills & I cry everytime. The pain that Michale felt at that moment was wonderful. Harold Parreneau did a great job. The arc of his story is a very interesting & under noticed one. |

2. Greg Grunberg looked quite a bit chunkier than when he started Heroes. He actually joined Weight Watchers and lost a bunch of weight, presumably between filming this and Heroes. I know this because they had a big article on him in the Weight Watchers magazine. I am far, far behind. Trying to catch up with Season 1 of True Blood before Season 2 starts, but I will get there. I 'm anxious to see if I react the way to Locke as some of you have. In my head, I'm thinking "Of course he's John Locke, not Anti-Jacob, because John Locke got killed off island in Season 5" but reading some of your comments, I'm not so sure anymore. |
