Or maybe he's just reserved, but I'm sure the language thing doesn't help. You can tell Asuka is MUCH more fluent and comfortable with english than him.
BTW, I'm a little surprised that Romulo is only 20. He seems older.

I feel bad for Ricky because I feel that maybe he could be charismatic in his first language. His english is fine, but from my experience with second
languages, even if you speak the language well, you can still not be fully comfortable with it, and so you lose a lot of personality when you speak it because
you are trying not to mess up.

Did people also think Katee was overpimped? Because for a while she could do no wrong and she was the only finalist who kept getting some variant of
contemporary (which was in her wheelhouse) week after week.
I was never a TWITCH fan and I think he wore out his welcome, but I think the hate for him is ridiculous, considering that every season you have dancers who overstay their welcome and outlast better dancers. |

I didn't detest TWitch, but got very sick of the boards at that time. All the tweenies writing, "Twitch is SO real... lol lol lol! Oh is is the
coolest ever! I wish I was Twitch!"

I mean, who did Katee really outlast that she didn't deserve to? She was easily better than the pre-Top 10 girls, as well as Jessica, Comfort and Kherington. Chelsie probably deserved a F4 spot, but if one of Katee or Courtney were to bow out then it'd have to be Courtney (despite how much I love her). Twitch shouldn't have outlasted Mark, Will or Gev, at the very least. |

Katee (like Will) was fine, but she was not worthy of the level of praise she received. |

^ I can handle that. I think she placed perfectly, but I suppose she did get a nice bit of praise that wasn't wholly deserved. I also felt like she was less pimped than Twitch and Will and on a level with Josh. In another season without such heavy pimpage she could've been hated. |

Twitch was also hated because he was a huge camera-whore, and a lot of what the judges (and supposedly his fans) loved about him just seemed fake. Like how
broadway was so far out of anything he has done, despite being in Hairspray, or how amazing he is for an UNTRAINED dancer. Oh, and if he didn't make top 20
that year, he would (sob) join the navy (sob). Then there were all of his accessories being overused (lensless glasses, T-shirts). There was also how
"great" he was at all styles, despite getting incredibly dumbed down choreography most of the time (his viennese waltz, the bed routine, the door
routine). He just didn't have the talent to back up all of his annoyances.
Katee may have been overpimped, but I didn't see her going out of her way to contribute to it. The only drama she got involved in was sort of thrown upon her by the judges (the decision with Natalie). Yes, I would have liked to see her do at least one hard hitting hip-hop, and more ballroom, but she was good at what she did. And like someone said, which girls didn't she deserve to outlast? Chelsie is the only one that comes to mind. |

Look at Priscilla who speaks spanish as her mother tongue, quite charismatic. Or look at the Japanese fellow in the first show, he could hardly speak english, but his character came through hugely in the short clip of him. Because there's so much to talk about in regards to this season right now...I would rather see discussions on what is happening now and what could be happening in upcoming shows. As opposed to rehashing again and again what happened last year. Plus there is a SYTYCD 08 thread to discuss last years drama. If the topics don't pertain to this year then why not take it there? just my take on things. |

Also, I would rather have Ricky's reserved personality than the japanese locker's. Talk about over the top; it would get old after a while.
But yeah, some people really lose a lot of their personality when they change languages. |

Personally, I don't give a flying FUCK about a personality. Can you KILL a fucking routine?!? If so, then book that motherfucker <333333

Yes, but they aren't booking the BEST dancer, they are putting people forward that could be America's FAVORITE dancer. Even if Ricky was the best
dancer making the top 100, if they don't find him engaging when he speaks and when he dances he wont go far in this competition.
Brandon is a good example, phenomenal dancer, but apparently too shy for the show last year. |

Part of killing a routine is having personality when you dance. I don't care what their personalities are like outside of the two minutes they dance, but I
expect them to have a great personality during their performances.

^^ Bingo. The only personality I care about is the charisma they have on the floor. But the producers/judges/many of the voters care about how over the top contestants can act in two minutes worth of rehearsal footage. Most of the time people think "wonderful personality" consists of mugging for the camera and being loud. Remember Chris showing personality last year? It consisted of him shouting akwardly after being put in the top 20, and strongly grabbing Comforts thighs. A lot of viewers appreciated this uhh, development, despite how forced it looked. Danny didn't have much personality out of his dancing for the first few weeks, but I still loved his preformances. |
