TAR, a lot of Survivor's elements are props or contrived or manmade. China was set around a manmade lake -- does that qualify as realistic? I don't see the harm in shooting in Iceland and setting a few challenges on a snowy mountain but then have quite a few on a section of fake snow where it's easier for the production and closer to tribe camps. This is common Survivor practice -- being 'generally authentic' -- isn't it?
I actually like that idea, Rusty. They only really have two options with Australia. They can either do it REALLY in the Outback this time("Survivor: Back to the Outback" or "Survivor: Outwit, Outplay, Outback" :P), like total Red Centre, or they could go to one of the beautiful and remote beaches NEAR the Great Barrier Reef in Tropical North Queensland ("Survivor: Great Barrier Reef") as they wouldn't be allowed anywhere near the actual string of reef beaches.
Are you kidding? Yes, a lot of the props like tikis and stuff are made for the show. But you can't compare a snowy environment to props. A man-made lake cannot be compared to fake snow in any way.
And I could definitely see Survivor going back to Australia, as they went back to Panama many times. But if they ever title it something like the Outback 2 or anything you suggested, nobody in their right mind would watch.
