I remember my friends and I all huddled in a dark room watching this TV series and screaming at the same time. But now if I watched it I'd probably call
the show cheesy.

Will wrote: "The Tale of the Dark Music", is what you're thinking of, and I like that one too. It's a really clever take on the monster in the basement myth when you think about it. Will it end up on the list? It is a mystery. I got the DVDs a few years ago. There's no commentary or anything, but it's totally worth it. |

This show was so scary! Especially the intro. I remember thinking the coolest part was when they threw that stuff on the fire, for some reason I thought that was really awesome. |

10. The Tale of the Ghastly Grinner
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OQBOQIiCoQY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pH7s1to9Rmg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lv2DbMJKzMU This episode was just as good, if not better, than I remembered. It bears a very strong similarity to "Wes Cravens New Nightmare" as well as the first "Elm Street" film, which I consider my personal best horror movie. And you know what? The villain in this episode is genuinely scary, especially for a kids show. There are also some speculative qualities that they leave unanswered, which I find intriguing. For example, the Ghastly Grinner is presumably bound by his own continuities rules, so he can't just go around like Freddy and kills mass loads of people. Why does he leave the comic book store owners father alive for what must have been many years? Also, does the main character get to keep his superpowers at the end? There is some palpable satire going on here. The main character(Ethan) has parents that are a pair of zombies, both figuratively and later on, literally. They tell him that comics are a waste of time, but they watch "Mind numbing, spirit crushing game shows"(Nod to Irving Welsh) and mooch off his success as an artist. Either as zombies or just as bad parents, they were also very weird to look at. The nerd girl(With a weird last name) has funny dialogue, and both her and Ethan have funny reactions when they encounter the Grinner. |

9. The Tale of Station 109.1
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KoWNLjOxVFQ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wVBQhuzbX5w http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V67oJ41hZAg The concept of Death personified has always irked me because it doesn't explain how he deals with war, famine and pestilence. I had the same problem with Bergman, with "Beetlejuice", with "Discworld" and with "Dead Like Me". This episode is pretty clever in how it deals with that problem. An annoying radio host that looks and sounds like Gilbert Gottfried directs the dead to the station so they can cross over. Most people when they die are totally lost and this is an act of public service. In this episode, a kid obsessed with death inadvertently finds himself in this radio station and is confused for a real dead guy named Daniel Carpenter. I'm not particularly morbid, but I love the dark humor in this episode. Gilbert Gottfried may be annoying to some, but he's hilarious here. Such a weaselly, bureaucratic prick. ETA: If anyone ever watched "Beyond Belief", doesn't the dead guy in the segment about the funeral home bear a striking similarity to the dead guy in this episode? It's not him, but the resemblance is uncanny. |

Your #13 is my #1. #2, for me, would have to be The Tale of Watcher's Woods. Jewel Staite as a mega-bitch getting her comeuppance!
I got season 1 on DVD as a birthday present a couple years back, definitely the best present of that year. |

Watcher's Woods had the whistles right? Was Jewel playing the main character?

Will wrote: Mmm Hmm to both questions. AYAOTD actually has a lot of notable cameos which you can see on its Wikipedia page. The girl who plays Samantha is pretty well known for her other TV roles, and most of the other Midnighters have sucessful careers, if not too high profile(Elisha Cuthbert excepted).

Wow, I never knew that Samantha was Cheyenne from Reba. OMG Tucker is the guy from Mean Girls that asks Lindsay Lohan if he can butter her muffin! EDIT: OMG again! I didn't know that The Tale of the Night Shift was the series finale of the original years!!!! :O It was always my favorite. <3

I liked that one with the jesters who had blue drool. I don't remember what it was, but it scared me for like a week, and for some reason it made me afraid
of my babysitter. :iiam What one was that?

I was scared by most of them as a kid, but one stood out over all the rest: The one with the cyber green brain virus thing terrified me. I had nightmares, I
would never watch the episode after that. I only recently watched it a few months ago for the first time in soooooooooooo many years.
Do you know what it was called? |

Emmanuelle Chriqui from "Tale of the Night Shift" actually has a pretty good career for herself now, as well. She's been on Entourage as Sloane
(E's GF) and was the love interest in "You Don't Mess With the Zohan"
