I soo agree. Those people are fucking freaks. When I was in the hospital I had some lactivist nazi come by so she could try to convince me to breastfeed. She was basically trying to make me feel like my kid was doomed if I didn't. When she was leaving, she had this look on her face like she was gonna feel sorry for my poor loser kid for the rest of her life. Crazy bitch.

They tell you it protects kids from all kinds of shit, but then when you see the actual kids that are exclusively breastfed they seem all pale and scrawny. I had a lativist who kept saying to me "It's like GOLD!"

Gentle Discipline. This is about being gentle to the child and explaining everything to them. One should never raise their voice at their child or punish them. Also because it's all about the child punishment should be minimal because you're letting them do what they want and you're always sitting and playing with them (because developing independence is horrible, the kid should NEED you)

Although I kind of agree with some of this- that kid I told you about whose mother went crazy- whenever other children teased or bullied him at kindergarten he'd try to explain to them in this long winded, verbose way how what they'd done was wrong and how it hurt his feelings, and they just stare at him like he was crazy.

Have you seen the people that do that crap with their toddlers. The kid will hit some other kid or do something equally annoying and inappropriate and instead of the parent saying NO and sitting the kid out of the situation for a time out they'll talk to them about the problem in a big huge paragraph. Then the kid does it again. There's a whole group that thinks that you should never say no to toddlers. So the kid bites you and you're not susposed to say no?

A lot of the things are fine when done rationally, it's the ones that are totally irrational about it that are just funny. Kids that aren't sleeping through the night at three because they're still needing to nurse to get back to sleep, kids that are exceptionally needy because their parents fed their kids dependence (those are the kids that can't handle pre-school because it's too hard to be away from mom and who scream for weeks into kindergarten). It's all about being logical and a lot of people are so into following their Dr Sears bible that they fail to see that somthing isn't working.
