Hey, I've got a trip planned to go to koh tarutao national park where s5 was filmed and am going to check out the campsites of the tribes but I can't
find a map saying where each beach specifically is. Is there a site anywhere that has detailed location maps?
Thanks |

Try Survivor Maps where Dan Bollinger and Wezzie put together a lot of location stuff back then.

It's only about 4 miles across and 16 miles north to south.
And just a random aside, if you go to Aitutaki on Google Earth you can see a challenge in progress, various other challenges, Exile Island with the ship on it, activity around the Aitutonga camp and the tribal council set :o |

Thats awesome, thanks for that. The island is massive so it takes a while to work your way around it. I won't be going for a while yet but you have to book
far in advance. This guy runs tours where you slowly kayak around the island and then camp at smaller islands around koh tarutao

Which is why they're driven to challenges in trucks and boats.

CSCin3D wrote: Wow! I didn't know that. Thanks! RyAn3640, there's a park service station on Koh Tarutao. You can get info and maps there, too. Your tour guide will know the locations, too. Who leads the kayak tours? Which company? |

Its a company called paddle asia. I've been emailing the guy and this is the first thing he said
Hi Ryan, The two sites where Survivor took place are both on Ko Tartutao, the biggest island in the 51 island national park. The two sites aren't particularly interesting to be honest, other than the fact that the show was shot there. There are many more places in Tarutao National Park that are prettier. The outer islands offer clearer water and wonderful old-growth jungle. but I can't go there and not see the sites. I might even see if I can sleep in the cave |

if you go to Aitutaki on Google Earth you can see a challenge in progress That's the first I'd heard of that, interesting. All I see is the challenge though, no other signs of production. Wasn't Tarutao affected by the tsunami? I know the region was. |

I agree, RyAn... if you're that close, see the Survivor sites. :) Have fun!

I could think of many of things I'd rather do instead of seeing a boring survivor island that probably does not even have a remnant of survivor. I'm
positive that there are more beautiful islands around Thailand or Malaysia or something. But I guess that's just me...
Aitutaki is a different story though, I'd love to go there. |

actually some of the best islands in thailand are surrounded by the location. It's not like its the only thing I'm going to see while I'm there is
the sites, that would be stupid. I'm living here for a year so I've got the time to explore.

How affected was the area from the tsunami of '04?

It wasn't as affected nearly as much as other areas and only got minimal damage (don't quote me on that though). Everything around Thailand has been
restored pretty much now anyway. Koh Phi Phi where the movie 'The Beach' was filmed got completely destroyed but is now back to a tourist hot spot.

That's great that you'll be there for a year, RyAn! How fun!
If you get a chance, contact John Caveman Gray in Phuket. He also runs a sea canoe tour business ("John Gray's Sea Canoe", not to be confused with 'sea canoe', but mainly does his tours in the karsts , eco-tours, etc. He's the fellow that circumnavigated Koh Tarutao on a kayah shortly after the filming ended. Tell him Wezzie sent you. (wezzie rhymes with EZ) http://phuketdir.com/johngrayseacanoe/ http://www.phuket.com/magazine/john-gray.htm |
