Is the Dimera vs Kiracauses the same deal? I always thought the Kiracauses and Bradys were inlaws or whatevers. The family tree is so damn confusing.

They're sort of related (of course everyone on this show is an in-law to somebody).

The DiMeras and Kiriakises apparently had a tenuous truce for a while and they have fights that have flared up from time to time (like there was some fight between John Black and the Kiriakises last year over shipping) independent of the DiMera-Brady rivalry.

The most recent edition of the feud started a couple months ago when EJ and Stefano sabotaged some business deal that Phillip was working on, then Tony DiMera (who was somewhat at odds with EJ and Stefano) got a hold of the project and Phillip fought with him over it and Tony wound up dying at the pier right after their confrontation (accidentally). EJ and Stefano still blamed the Kiriakis family for Tony's death and were very upset about it so they ordered a hit on Phillip that was unsuccessful.

Victor Kiriakis responded by kidnapping Stefano and withholding insulin from him for his diabetes unless EJ signed over all of the DiMera family business to Victor. EJ thought about signing everything over but then found out that Stefano had a plant working at the Kiriakis mansion and used him, Owen, to kidnap Phillip's fiance Stephanie Johnson (who is a Brady through her mom) so EJ could propose a Stefano-Stephanie stop. Unfortunately this Owen guy is a crazy unreliable psycho who wants Stephanie for himself so the swap failed and no one knows where Stephanie is and while the cops found Stefano and took him to a hospital, EJ is in jail and Phillip is on the run from the police.

Police Commissioner Bo Brady is actually a blood Kiriakis as Victor Kiriakis was his dad from an affair he had with Caroline Brady, but Bo and Victor/Phillip are somewhat estranged and Bo is mad that Victor retaliated against the DiMeras after Phillip's shooting rather than letting him and his police department handle it.

Brady Black was revealed to be both a blood DiMera and Brady on his father's side when John Black's identity was revealed last year but doesn't interact that much as part of either family except as being mentioned as Sami's step-sister. He also is a Kiriakis through his dead mom so Victor is his grandpa and he's worked at Victor's company, but he is on the outs with Victor (this week at least) because he ratted out the Steph-Stef swap to the police and Victor didn't want the cops involved.

But I guess you kind of summed all this up when you said the family tree is so damn confusing.
