I read the whole thing and now feel quite dumb. I've lost at least 20 IQ points.

The entire article is a great expose on how antiquated TRADITIONAL marriage is.
As if "staying intact" has any meaning or merit these days. Thank you Bristol Palin for proving that... The article says nothing of the simple fact that as long as the government attaches benefits to "marriage," it should be available to any two HUMANS who want to declare themselves "married." But get rid of any benefits for getting married and western civilization is going to collapse! All those horny women and men running rampant in the streets!!! |

Due to my upbringing, I totally see the "valid" (in the author's mind) points, and yes it also completely antiquates hetero-marriages.
So, the reason gay marriage won't last and hetero-marriage will is because we have to protect the kinship blah blah blah and women should be virgins until her parents (that protect her virginity) say she's mature and able to marry? It's all so very ... old. bleh However, I do see how these ancient social constructs do bring a since of duty and morality into it. But, it ONLY WORKS if the child keeps the same morality his or her parents raise them with ... which is quickly going out the window. Religious groups are seeing all-time lows in congregation numbers, the number of people who say they are religious are dropping ... I'm not sure what the numbers are for people that believe in some sort of "higher power" are ... but, it's only a matter of time before religiously-imposed rules and regulations are completely out the window for most people, in which case, the whole saving virginity for marriage argument is null and void. And, yeah, as a gay man, there are no kinship rules. You meet someone, start fucking and it either works out or it doesn't. Rinse, Repeat. So, on the other hand, I do think gay marriage is a bit silly because if gays drop and switch boyfriends as often as they will husbands - what's the point? However, there are very very loving committed gay relationships that I do think deserve the benefits of marriage. The legal benefits. And, yes, the truly mature solid relationships are always older men. I just don't know what percentage of gay men under 40 would really take this seriously. It would be VERY HARD for me and others to get beyond the whole fuck and switch routine that seems to be the basis of gay relationships. Some guys have a 2 year rotation, some 5 years ... for younger gays, at least in MY experience, they have a new boyfriend rotation schedule of anywhere from 1 a week, to 2 weeks, 1 month, 6 months ... Anyway, I see both sides and agree with both sides. It's why I'm such a confuzzled little gay boy and UC hates me cuz I won't pick a side at times. |

Isn't it possible that committed gay male relationships will become the norm? Is it just because it's two men as opposed to two women? And are lesbians
more apt to have long term relationships than gay men? Just curious here.

Nobody cares about lesbians, CBR. We're the forgotten gays.

My brother has been with his SO since 81 or 82. They have lasted longer than most heterosexual couples, I know.

Lesbians ONLY have Long-Term Relationships. They're INSANE!
And yeah, you get two horndog men together, and you think they can meet a fellow homo at 18 and fall in love and get married and never ever ever sleep with a second man ever in his life? :scoff: Good luck! |
