I have that effect on people
did anyone read Jerry West'c comments? I like LeBron just as much as the next fan but can he win a champ/ship or six before he gets mentioned in the
same sentence as MJ?

Last nights Lakers win was very impressive. I give them 100% credit for a very good showing.

I did enjoy watching Kobe clang a jumper or two. Too bad the Nuggets offense dissapeared faster than a plate of cannolis in front of starrider...

well said bilky. I pretty much agree w/ a lot of that.
At the same point in their careers, I actually give a slight edge to LeBron. MJ was my idol growing up but he hadn't fully matured until his 6th or 7th year. LBJ is a superior athlete and the biggest freak of nature I've seen in any sport. He's a better passer and driver to the basket, MJ was a better defender and perimeter shooter. The reason LBJ will not surpass Michael (imo) is cause I doubt he'll top him as a clutch performer (is that even possible?). I can't remember MJ missing a shot w/ a playoff game on the line nor do I recall him missing a key ft to cost the Bulls a playoff game. Michael had the heart of an assassin, was the greatest finisher ever, and never lost in the finals (I don't hold it against LeBron that he got swept by the Spurs cause they were clearly the inferior team but the Cavs are favs this year so he needs to win it all) anyway, if the Cavs go all the way, it will be interesting to see if LBJ has the same drive/motivation to win many more champ/ships like MJ had during his prime. |

oh yeah and LeBron is the best all around player right now but I'd rather have the ball in Kobe's hands with the game on the line (Kobe is also a
better ft shooter too)
Thuggets are in a must win situation. No way the Lake Show are blowing this series if they go up 2-0 |

Ah, the inevitable MJ/LJ comparisions. Before we start comparing apples to oranges, you need to compare the league now to the league then.
The league was far more physical defensively in the 90s. Detroit had the J.ordan Rules where they hacked and shoved and pushed MJ all over the court. He had deficiencies then and Detroit exploited them. It also took a while for MJ to start trusting the "Jordanaires" and playing more of a team game mainly at the urging of Phil Jackson and Tex Winter. MJ also went against the Knicks who had a thugs who swore by Pat Riley's No Layups Rule. Players like Oakley and Mason smacked anyone who came their way. Even the Jazz played tough interior D. John Stockton had the rep of being the dirtiest player in the league, no surprise since his coach was Jerry Sloan, who was one of the nastiest players on the old Chicago Bulls. I don't see the league embracing team D nowadays they way it was embraced back then. It took Jo.rdan 6 years to win his first ring. James is in his 6th season now. If you are going to compare the two, that's the point at which you can compare them. Who's the better player in their 6th year? Thanks to his killer instincts, I give the edge to MJ PS: Why is J.ordan filtered? |

Bad loss by the Lakers tonight. They really needed to keep homecourt throughout.

I would absolutely love a Nuggets-Magic matchup in the finals (unlike probably 95% of everyone else). This is why you actually play the games, and why I
can't stand people throughout the year that wanted to skip to the "inevitable" Lakers-Cavs finals. All year, that's all anyone really talked
about. As good as Kobe and Lebron are, there are a ton of good players in the NBA that receive very little coverage, because of the over the top fawning
devoted to those two. It's still unlikely that neither the Lakers or Cavs make the finals. However, it would make me happy for a lot of the recent
"fans" of LA and Cleveland (a number of whom know absolutely nothing about basketball, and hardly even watch games), to stop buying into the cult of
personality presented by the media and the league itself, and either become actual basketball fans or piss off.

yeah I was going to make that point DeBrun about MJ facing better defensive teams during his era but I didn't want to sound long-winded. To be fair
though, Lebron faced an excellent defensive team like the Celtics last year and performed at a very high level.
If the Lakers lose this series, all they have to do is point at the final 5 mins of the first half last night where they sleptwalk and allowed the Thuggets
to come back from a 14 pt deficit.

I agree twisted. Lakers win one in Denver. This series is going 7.

yeah I can really picture these two teams being tied with like 2 mins left in gm 7. It's a pretty evenly matched series.

Cavs will win by 20 tonight. I think they will also steal one in Orlando. This one is going 7 also.

So the Denver fan suddenly appears after gm 2 but was nowhere to be found after gm 1. Funny how that works.Ok twisted, sorry I didn't say anything after the WCF game one, and your panties are in a wad because of it. The Lakers were outplayed for the most part, and won a close game. Almost the exact opposite of game 2. LA has a great shot to win one in Denver, but the Nuggets will probably play much better at home, so Lakers really need to step up. My real point though stands, and the previous post has as much to do with the Magic as the Nuggets. I think both the Lakers and Cavs are excellent teams. The media, and league, seemed to have blinders towards the other 28 teams though. I also really hate poser fans, many whom have never lived in the team's city (where are you from again?), and attach themselves to Kobe and Lebron's dicks like remoras. |
