Um, don't look now but Gordo's time is long gone too, it's a pretty safe bet Jimmy Johnson has dominated your king for years now.

Omnipponit wrote:Yes, he's not in 1995-1998 form anymore, but my point in calling him "king" was that he's an old guy with a track record of unrivaled success (amongst current racers) that can still hang with the young guns on any given night. Like it or not, he's reached a similar position as that of Earnhardt before he was killed. Mark is like this too, only without the past championships. Outta curiosity (and boredom admittedly), here are the cumulative stats for the 24 and 48 in the latter's 3 year championship run: 24: Wins: 8 Poles: 13 Top 5: 48 Top 10: 67 Avg. Finish: 12.4 48: Wins: 22 Poles: 11 Top 5: 48 Top 10: 70 Avg. Finish: 10.3 I wouldn't call it dominated, he's been able to win more, but the only reason he's been able to hoist the trophy three times is thanks to this ridiculous Chase. Going by "real" championships, it should be 6-1. Not 4-3. ::sticks more pins in Brian France voodoo doll.

GAG. I'm watching the replay of Oprah while power voting for Adam on AI and there was a segment about some guy's Good News Garage that, for a small
fee, gives cars to those in need. If I heard and saw correctly, Felon Rick Hendrick and Hendrickcars.com
just donated ten new Impalas to the garage guy. Nice thing to do... but Hendrick is still evil, y'all!

Yay Ryan!
But big OUCH! If one of NA$CAR's marquee drivers and his crew chief had pulled something like this, would the penalties be as severe? From racingone.com: Long Handed Big Penalty NASCAR has issued penalties, suspensions and fines to the No. 46 team in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, as a result of rules
infractions committed during last weekend's event at Lowe's Motor Speedway.

Any word yet on what illegal drug Jeremy Mayfield had in his system yet?

Re: Long - not that NA$CAR cares. I wouldn't be surprised if this puts the team out of business. I know rules are rules, but that is awfully harsh.
Re: Mayfield - no word yet. But if it WERE Claritin plus a prescription drug, I wouldn't be totally surprised -- you know how NA$CAR will throw the disfavored under the bus to protect its sponsors and whomever else it wants to protect. |

The more NASCAR stonewalls, the more inclined I am to believe Mayfield. If he's so adamant just tell everyone WTF it was.

Cousin Carl was only docked 100 points and his 10 Chase win points for his engine violation last year. He wasn't suspended for 3 months. What bullshit. The difference is so obviously because of the last name it's ridiculous. |

So now Carl Long can't even keep his daily job as a Nationwide crewman because NA$CAR won't let him into any track.
I've read that it was an Ernie Elliot built engine that Carl just bought and installed. Of course he doesn't have enough crewmen to tear down every engine he buys. |

There's so much corruption in the NA$CAR TPTB that it's beyond ridiculous. Tony was extremely smart to get on board with Haas, what with it already
being a Hendrick satellite team. The way the sport is going, eventually if you're not affiliated with Hendrick, you'll be out of favor with TPTB and,
therefore, royally fucked.
How much of this shit would be going on if Dale Earnhardt Sr. were still alive? |

Now they've got a muzzle placed on every.single.driver, and nobody (aside from Tony basically) has the balls to try and get it off. So now Carl Long can't even keep his daily job as a Nationwide crewman because NA$CAR won't let him into any track. That's just bloody sad. Literally. Why don't they just send his ass to Alcatraz. He's being treated like a felony criminal. |

Here's a comment from Jayski's re: Long's response to the situation... and some math I did re: the engine volume.
From Jayski's: "STATEMENT: Statement from Carl and DeeDee regarding the recent suspension and fines: "First of all I would like to wish Charles Swing, my crew chief, well. Since this incident he was admitted Monday night to a Georgia hospital with heart problems. He is a stay at home dad who loves to go racing. We purchased an engine from a reputable builder at the beginning of the season. We overheated the engine in practice and had to change it. We had the option to withdraw and go home before admitting it to inspection. Trusting that our blown engine wouldn't have any problems passing NASCAR tech, we submitted it and put our other motor in the car to get ready for the Showdown. As everyone knows it didn't pass tech. The rules are 358 cubic inches and ours is 358.17 cubic inches. The .17 is as wrong as if it would have been 400 cubic inches. This engine is 50 horsepower less than top teams but it was all that could be afforded. I would have never knowingly went to the race track with a big engine! This suspension has not only stopped me from racing, it has also hurt me with my everyday job. It's hard to make a living working at the race track when NASCAR will not let you in. I can only hope that the appeal board will see things differently than the ones that came up with this penalty. I don't consider myself a cheater. I am addicted to the worse drug ever...racing! Every dime we have been able to scrape up, we use to race, because we love the sport. It takes about a half million in equipment to be able to build an engine, so I have to rely on other people and this time it bit me. Thanks for supporting me in wherever this goes!" Once again, the application of basic LOGIC to a situation doesn't prevail within the France / Helton camp of stupidity. The entire reasoning for a cc limit on engine size is to prevent a team from getting a competitive advantage of horsepower... which, if Long's statement above which I've highlighted is true would have been anything but the case for his car. Here's a smidgen of math - what's the volume difference between his engine, and the mandated maximum size? 7.101712210213192 = the cube root of 358.17ci. 7.1005884587975405 = the cube root of 358ci. ================ 0.0011237514156515 inches per each of the LWH dimensions of the extra cubic area. Just a tad over 1/1000th of an inch per side of the add'l cubic space yields a fine to THAT degree?!?!!?? Screw NA$CAR!!

Oh.my.god.
Seriously. The more this gets fleshed out, the more I can't get over this. Dude has to pay out the wazoo and get locked out of the series for 3 months for what amounts to basically nothing. No competitive advantage, no safety hazard, nothing. Slowly but surely, NA$CAR is catching up to F1 in gongshow-ness. |

I wish they'd put indy back to it's original 12PM start time. I t was always fun to watch the NASCAR guys run Indy, then get back in time to run
Charlotte

Indy starts at, what, 1 pm now? Keep in mind that most of Indiana wasn't on daylight savings time until recently. So when the race started at noon local
time, it was 1 pm already in Charlotte. Say the 500 ran till 3 pm local time... it was already 4 pm in Charlotte, which meant that the drivers really had to
hustle to make it to Charlotte. Now if the race ends at 4 pm, they have the same amount of time to go between the tracks. I seem to remember that the 600
used to start later, around 5:30 or 6:00... is it starting earlier now?

Is Indiana in a different time zone than eastern?
So who's gonna watch the triple on Sunday? Monaco @ 7AM, Indy @ 1am & Charlotte @ 5PM?

memyselfand1 wrote:Most of Indiana, including Indianapolis, is eastern time. (Only the northwest and southwest corners of the state are central time.) It's just that until a couple of years or so ago, the part that was eastern time didn't observe daylight savings time, except for a few counties in the far eastern part of the state. So during DST, most of the state was on EST, which was, in effect, the same time as the central time zone (which had turned its clocks ahead an hour). Confusing? Yeah, I thought so. Thanks for the reminder re: Monaco. Now I have an excuse to stay in all day and nurse my agonizing sunburn I got today, unless I duck out to go to church... if I do, I should be home just in time to watch Indy. (Um, how long does it take for the blisters to appear if the sunburn is bad enough? And how would I know if I got sun poisoning?) |
