I don't think anyone has thanked Miss Alley Shack for dredging up all the information about Kara's songwriting history or Survivor Dog for the great parody of Kara's wretched coronation song. Great job, both of you!

After looking at Kara's credits, I think people need to get some perspective. Instead of comparing her to some mythical perfect songwriter who churns out NOTHING BUT CLASSIC SONGS, they need to look at what other songwriters have actually produced. Take the classic songwriters from the great days of rock: Lennon/McCartney, Jagger/Richards, Holland/Dozier/Holland, Bob Dylan, Smokey Robinson, Leiber/Stoller, Goffin/King, Paul Simon, Bacharach/David, etc. etc. (it's a nice long list) Or take the best songwriters working today: Jack White, Alicia Keys, Ben Moody, etc. None of them has the consistent excellence you seem to expect. All have produced lots of forgettable songs (in the case of Lennon, McCartney & Simon, these happily didn't occur till the 70s). Which is OK. Songwriters need to be judged mainly by their best work.

Kara is a terrible judge on Idol, and she's a second-string songwriter with lots of teen-oriented hackwork in her resume, but she's NOT a terrible songwriter. Some of the songs people assume are wretched (without having heard them) are actually quite good, notably "The Difference" on Diana DeGarmo's CD. And the idea that she doesn't actually write anything but somehow gets her name into the credits anyway is really stupid. Why would people do that? Its one thing to look at Avril Lavigne's well documented clashes with songwriters and realize she doesn't write her own stuff: she's a singer who WISHES she was a writer also, and can threaten to not record something unless her name is added to the credits, But what can Kara do? Threaten to NOT sleep with somebody?
