Calvin said it perfectly, Rachel ran far from her best and she still won.
Mine that Bird probably would have won with that large charge with any other horse. Rachel is just too fierce to beat. |

Yay, Rachel! Just got back from the horse tracks and it was a lot of fun. There were a couple of guys who had bids on every horse "except the
girl". My $20 paid out $56. The odds on her went up at the last minute it seems. Woo!

they've been reporting on what is going to happen with pimlico, if the state is going to help bail them out. yesterday's attendance isn't going to help: 2005 preakness infield: 
2009 preakness infield, same view: 
they banned alcohol in the infield, so that's probably the main reason for the drop in attendance. but i think that the problems with the horse-racing industry in general hurt also. i know i don't enjoy the sport like i used to. |

I think they recently allowed slot machines there too, and they are hoping that helps make up the difference in revenues...

I hope the State or Churchill step in and buy Pimlico. I can't imagine a Triple Crown without a Preakness.
Another amazing race by Rachel Alexandria the Great. Why stay away from Belmont? She has the distance, she didn't like this wet track, and if it's wet there she may not do her best, but she migth have proven she doesn't need to bring her best. Mine That Bird was close to taking it from her, and still may in the Belmont. Let's face it, 3 majors in 6 weeks will work any good horse, both of them may start showing fatigue. |

I loved that Rachel won the Preakness, because I love it when a lady beats one of the boys, but I have to admit that I was yelling like crazy when Mine That
Bird was making his way towards the front; like he did during the KD. It's exciting to see a horse move through the other horses and make his way towards
the front like that.
Can't wait for them to meat up again at the Belmont. |

It will be interesting to see what Mine That Bird can do on this track with Calvin riding him again.
