Recently finished reading "The Boleyn Inheritance" to keep ahead of The Tudors. Interesting take on Henry's failed 4th marriage, better
explained than on the Showtime series (so far).
Now trying to get through Angels and Demons before the movie promos ruin any suspense. I'm an odd one who thought The DaVinci Code was over-rated, but so far this one appeals to me - more like a regular action/caper story than the pretentiousness of TDC. |

Heretic Queen, and surprisingly I like it. It's a departure from my usual choices.

McWolcott wrote: Oooh, I hope you like Shadow Kiss! It's one of my all-time faves. Love that book. Love Richelle! I finally read book1 in her succubus series. It took me a long time to get hooked on it, but about halfway through I couldn't put it down. I haven't had a chance to read any others in the series yet. Let's see, I read a lot of books recently. Currently I'm reading ONE LONELY DEGREE by CK Kelly Martin, but I'm struggling with it. I'm 120 pages in and still not hooked, but since I know the author, I feel bad not finishing. I'm also reading THE FOREST OF HANDS AND TEETH by Carrie Ryan--only a few pages in since I'm reading this one on my iPhone and it goes slower there. Very good so far, I love how literary the writing is in a genre story. I'm super excited for DULL BOY by Sarah Cross to arrive any day now from Amazon. Sarah rocks! Recent reads since I haven't posted in this thread in a while: EVERMORE by Alyson Noel -- LOVED this book. I highly recommend it for anyone who likes paranormal. It was refreshing to read about non-vampires/werewolves/faeries THE AWAKENING by Kelley Armstrong -- liked book 1 better, but still liked this a lot. Derek is my fave. STARGAZER by Claudia Gray -- I liked this better than the first. Glad we got to know more about Balthazar. WINGS by Aprilynne Pike -- This had a lot of buzz, but it felt too much like a Twilight copy cat to me except with forced love interests who were just "too perfect" for my taste (I mean, even Edward has his flaws). There was even a guy who glittered! I definitely prefer the supernatural guy to the human because at least he had more personality than "too good to be true." The writing was a bit hackneyed, but I really did enjoy the twist on faeries and the unique aspect of biology in this book. Plus I thought the suspense scenes were well done and creative. So my feelings on this are mixed. TORCHED by April Henry -- Read this one for research on my WIP, but I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. It's about extreme environmental activism, and I thought the author did a good job of making me care and root for characters who I probably wouldn't side with in real life. IF I STAY by Gayle Forman -- I was afraid to read this one because I don't like sad things, but it had such buzz and I had an ARC so I sucked it up and gave it a try. It definitely took a lot out of me emotionally. I kept having to put it aside and take breaks, but it really stuck with me. It's a beautifully written, gut-wrenching book. It is mostly told in flashbacks and had very little foreground scenes, but I do think it will make an interesting movie that I most likely won't see because I'm assuming it will be gory (another thing I dislike). The love interest's name is Adam and he's a muscian, so of course I couldn't help but picture Adam Lambert the entire time. And I've now read books 1-3 in the HOUSE OF NIGHT series, and I don't know. I really hated them. I can't see why they're so popular. I don't like any of the characters. Zoey is a whiny slut who is not worthy of any of her guys. She's also a blatant Mary Sue. The writing feels like it's trying too hard to sound like a teen. AND THERE IS NO PLOT!!!! Or at least very little plot until the end of each book. So I'd really like to know why people like these? I have a rather large TBR shelf right now, so I'm not sure what I'll read next, but after DULL BOY I think I may stay away from paranormal for a bit and read a few more contempory books, particularly rom coms.

i liked all that stuff with the civil war and mark twain. if i were his editor though i would have cut his question mark usage in half at least. it was
annoying

Speaking of which, why do so many people turn statements into questions? Maybe he overused the question mark because Americans do already in their everyday
speech.
