The force of DamLa's crying attack coupled with Risall's sword thrown into the heartless dragon's chest caused and explosion that blew back both the Knight and the Siren.

Risall, the Monkey Knight was the first to regain his senses. Gathering his senses and rising unto his legs, a sharp pain erupted in his side causing him to double over in agony. He braced his arm over his side, hoping he hadn't broken any ribs. There was still much to do and he needed to be in top shape for what was to come.

Off in the distance, the blackened heap that was the dung-breathing dragon, D'Goke, was still smoking. The Knight's enchanted sword still embedded in his chest and sticking straight up. Some way off, DamLa the Siren lay on her side, the explosion knocking her unconscious.

Still holding his side, Risall shuffled painfully towards the dragon's body, focusing on the sword that he must retrieve. The lower half of the blade still visible and shining in the sunlight. With every step closer, Risall worried that the Dragon would rise again but there was no movement from the smoldering behemoth.

With pain still coursing through his side, he got to the Dragon's side and climbed on top of the beast's enormous belly. Placing both hands on the hilt of his sword, he exhaled slightly to recoup his strength and release his sword...

But before he could do anything, D'Goke stirred and rose from where he lay. The Monkey Knight fell off the hulking dragon's body, losing grip on his sword and landing heavily on his side. The pain intensified and shocked him into immobility.

D'Goke rose fully upright and took a few moments to shake the soot from his face. Seeing the paralyzed Knight beneath him, the Dragon scooped him up in one of its taloned claws. Squeezing tightly, Risall roared in pain, his arms held tightly in the dragon's hand.

"YOU...!" D'Goke bellowed out of breath and still feeling the pain of the last attack, "you dare... think you can defeat... ME!"

The Dragon squeezed tighter causing the Monkey Knight to howl even louder.

"You cannot break... the prophecy! Now... you will finally... find your destiny!"

The Dragon cocked its head back, ready to blow a barrage of dung into the Knight he held.
Even through the pain, Risall saw the glint of the sword blade still in the beast's chest.

With every ounce of strength he had, the Knight bent his legs and kicked the hilt of his sword, sliding it fully into the dark heart.

D'Goke was stunned! He dropped Risall at his feet and grabbed both his own throat and clutched at the sword. The dung he meant to spew at the Monkey was now lodged into his throat, choking him. The dragon pulled the sword out of it's heaving bosom and threw it down, but a fountain of black blood poured out onto the ground. He could not even cry out in pain, the dung blocked his air passages.

Flailing uncontrollably, D'Goke again fell onto his back, heaving and thrashing like a fish out of water. The spasms slowed within moments and the Dragon finally lay still. The spectacles he prided himself on lay inches away as the Dragon tried reaching for them.
Before he could, his muscles relaxed and the light in its eyes dimmed and eventually went out.

D'Goke the Dung Breathing Dragon... was no more.

Everything stood still... not even the air moved as the pupils of the dung-breathing dragon dilated and finally sparkled no more.
As if the world had been holding its breath for this moment, a gust of wind blew a few dead leaves past the corpse of D'Goke as if making sure this was not another of the Dragon's tricks.
But no, the swollen purple tongue, the open and disturbingly red blood shot eyes and the slowly ebbing but still continuous fountain of black blood on its chest could not hide the truth... the Dragon was dead.

From atop Mt. Idol, the clouds swirled menacingly into a purple vortex, lightning flashes intermittently striking out and a mournful wail echoed forth as if the legendary mountain itself was crying.

Risall, the Monkey Knight, opened his eyes and clamped his hands over his ears. Even the pain on his side could not compare to this unearthly cry of despair. As the cry subsided to something more tolerable, he managed to get to his feet before the black pool of D'Goke's blood reached him.

The Siren Queen, DamLa, had already picked himself up and was making her way to where the Knight stood over the Dragon.
"This is a great day," she said as he came to the Knight's side, "History shall remember you as the warrior who slew the most dangerous creature to roam this world."

"I did not do it alone," Risall replied, looking over at the Siren, "Many have fallen to this beast... and their efforts shall not be forgotten."

The mournful wail from the mountain once again intensified. This time the Knight did not cover his ears, neither did the Siren.

"The Elder Gods are not pleased," the Knight calmly said when the cry subsided.

"I don't understand the Gods' perverse game," DamLa replied, "Why would they allow, nay... WANT this loathsome beast to have a chance at the Crown of 19? Do they not know how our world would suffer had D'Goke attained such power?"

"You are a powerful warrior, DamLa," Risall explained, "and the Gods are bored. They wanted to see a battle this realm has never seen the likes of. But the Gods were proven wrong."

"And the Elder Gods do not like being proven wrong," the Siren said before the wail continued again, "But we are the final two and the magical bonds atop Mount Idol have been broken. Let us ascend and see which of us is to be the next ruler of the realm. And we shall ascend as friends, not as foes as the Gods intended."

DamLa extended her hand and the Monkey Knight took it in a warm handshake.

"I would not have it any other way. Let us go defy destiny."

And with that, the two remaining warriors started for the final challenge atop Mount Idol.



Meanwhile, in the ethereal purple vortex on top of the mountain, the cries of the two female Elder Gods, Pabdulla and RaDiGwa intensified once again. But through the wail of despair a slight chuckle mingled within.
The Elder God, Co-El whispered...
