What are some of the biggest social or strategic blunders made by past castaways? I'm curious to what everyone thinks.

It's one thing to make a mistake, as many have every season.
It's an entirely different thing to keep the mistake going week after week after week with opportunites to correct it every time...I guess that makes ALL of Timbira's boots post-merge the worst mistakes ever. |

Ozzy and Sundra not flushing out the idol at F5. Were they mentally challenged? Adam was going either way and was willing to sacrifice himself to get the idol
out. Ozzy and Sundra obviously did not want a chance of winning.

I'm sure there are a ton of them, but one really stands out to me. Lex and Kathy keeping Amber.
Rob was DONE! All the moping and sniveling he did over at Mogo Mogo when he thought Amber was a goner... they could have walked right over him to the finals. It's ridiculous, really. |

Colby taking Tina over KeithThis wins hands down! Easily a $900K mistake. No other blunder in Survivor has been this costly! |

Not Necessarily the biggest blunders, but the worst moves ...
Pagong not voting out Rudy It was an early season, so I can't fault Pagong too much for their ideologies on how to play the game. But with all the "rumours" (a.k.a. producer leaks) about a Tagi alliance, they should have done what Gervase said and maintained the upper hand before continuing on. Sean not joining a counter-alliance Yes, the guy was smarter than some people give him credit for. In some respects. Such as the alphabet strategy as an excuse to vote out Pagong. But with things such as believing there was no Tagi alliance .. stupid. And not forming a counter alliance, even stupider. Gervase, Colleen, and Jenna eventually got it. Sean was the last one to get it, and by then it was way too late (final 5). Kelly voting out Sue Susan was Kelly's best opportunity to win the game, and while I can totally understand the move to stick it to her and not let Sue in to the top 3 like she so smugly told Kelly, it was the move that probably cost Kelly the game. Elisabeth, Mike, and Rodger voting out Kimmi From what I understand, these three had an alliance with Kimmi, but somehow Kimmi lost trust with Mike so they voted her out to keep the peace. But had they voted out Jeff, they would have eliminated the person that Ogakor knew had votes, and could have potentially changed the game post-merge. Tina, Keith, Colby voting out Jerri I've heard every excuse that this was a good move, but I still disagree. Elisabeth's confessional regarding how they diluted their power by isolating Amber proves that she was well aware that the game could be changed; now one could argue that they read their opponents well and knew that Rodger and Elisabeth wouldn't turn, but in a duplicitous game, why wouldn't these two jump ship and get to the final 4 themselves? Kucha and Amber not aligning Just as fast as T/C/K gave the ball over to these 4, they handed the ball right back. I blame Elisabeth because she was so far up Tina and Colby's butts. Lindsey and Silas freaking out on elders This also encompasses the tribal division that burned Samburu, and Lindsey and Silas were the biggest contributors to the problem (with all 6 other members also having some sort of blame). Like Brandon said, they didn't understand that what they say now has huge consequences for 3-4 days later, and it got them both booted. This also plays into the error Frank, Teresa, and Silas made in not voting together. Boran votes out Clarence ... and tells him Again, it was an invitation for Samburu to take the game. Especially when they told Clarence, and if he were smart enough, he could have rallied the former Samburu members. Boran voting out Kelly Seriously, what the fuck? Brandon voting out Kelly He, Kim, and Kelly could have easily been the final 3 (with him and Kim taking final 2). Stupid. I don't care what his rational was about Kelly being too smart. Kim refusing to vote with Samburu Yeah, again, really self-explanatory. I also blame Frank, Teresa, and Brandon for not trying harder to convince her. Kim Johnson not flipping over to Samburu She had a promise from Teresa to go to the final 2, and a spot in the final 3 with Kim P. and T-Bird. Instead she stuck with the Boran Boys who she knew (and she was warned constantly) were together. Rotu 4 pulling in Rob, Sean, and Vee to vote out Gabriel "I think it was a mistake that John told me that. If they wanted to vote out Gabriel, they should have just done it and not told us anything." -Sean. That could have ended their game right then and there had Gabriel actually wanted to stay. Gina turning down Kathy's offer to talk strategy I'm confused at why Gina thought she was probably safe, but she assumed that talking to Kathy would be bad for her if Paschal and Neleh saw her. This was her chance to save herself and align with her favourite tribemember and she turned it down, thus ending her game. Rotu 4 acting cocky Duh. Sook Jai throwing the immunity challenge to vote out Jed This is probably one of the biggest blunders ... of all time. There was no rational to throwing this challenge to vote out your team's strongest member (and one of the best challenge performers in the show's history) because he doesn't work on the shelter (when water is vital)? This was Sook Jai's downfall, and I guarantee you that had they not done this, one of them would have won the whole game. Shii-Ann refusing to vote with Sook Jai So she had Ken and Jake both promising that they will help her out, and she couldn't deal with Penny and Erin for 6 days? Brian and Clay bashing Ted to Sook Jai Seriously, this almost ended their game completely. Had Jake not kept the info about who told him to vote for Ted, they would have lost the game. And its a shame, since they played really well but managed to make a really bad decision. Jake not telling Ted that Brian and Clay instigated the votes against Ted See above. Helen, Jan, Ted not voting out Clay (and Brian) It was the obvious thing to do. All the signs pointed to a Clay-Brian alliance. Dave, Roger, and Butch vote out Jeanne over Heidi, Jeanne not approaching them Seriously, this was the obvious move of the century. They get the one person who they know is strongly aligned with everyone left at Jaburu and they do what? They vote out the former Jaburu outsider. Let me say that again. They voted out the other tribe's outsider and kept the other tribe's dominant alliance member. Alex telling Rob that he was going to vote him out at final 4 Obvious. It led to his ouster 1-2 days later. Christy waffling between alliances Again, another obvious one. Jenna and Heidi not approaching Christy after Rob approached them IMO, Heidi should have told Christy she was going that night ... it could very well have swung her to vote with them, which was better than going into the final 5 outnumbered 3-2. Matthew not voting with Butch at final 4 Again, this was Matt's biggest mistake, IMO. He should have known that he had a way better chance to beat Butch than Rob. The decision should have been easy. Thats seasons 1-6. Will add the rest later. |

Disagree completely. If Clay didn't bash Ted (and it was mostly Clay), then Sook Jai might have tried to get him voted off. Instead, Clay acted like he might be willing to vote for Ted at the final 8, and they trusted him as their last chance. It might have been stupid for Jake to not tell Ted about Clay afterwards, but he does that, and Chuay Gahn may take him out a round earlier than he ended up leaving. Ted probably wasn't going to believe anyone over Brian (except for maybe Helen.) |

Thailandsurvivor wrote:If Ted wasn't going to believe anyone over Brian or Helen, then Clay wouldn't have to worry about Jake, Ken, and Penny succeeding in taking him out. By targeting Ted specifically, he gave Jake and Penny a chance to retaliate after Ken left. Jake also had nothing to lose at that point. What was the alternative? Convince Helen to flip when she has no reason to? No, he should have went to Ted, and there's a chance he would have believed him. Even if he didn't, it was his best chance at flipping someone. |

And if Jake flips Ted, then he is still down 4-3. We also know now that Penny flipped on Jake, so I don't understand how that would have helped him make it
further.
Clay wanted their jury votes. That's the only reason he talked strategy with Sook Jai. |

Season 1- Sean's alphabet strategy really screws any chance of the Tagi 4 alliance being broken in Ep9 when Jenna is booted....
Season 2- Elisabeth/Rodger/Nick dont try to bring in Amber at F7.... Colby takes Tina to the end and loses Season 3- Brandon could have WON the game had he voted with Samburu and Kelly to take out Lex Season 4- the Rotu 4 reveal their pecking order Season 5- everyone trusted Brian Season 6- Rob C votes out Christy instead of Heidi, then Jenna. Jenna goes on to win. Season 8- Kathy and Lex keep Amber Season 11- Stephanie backstabs too many people when it wasnt even necessary Season 16- Erik gives up immunity at the F5 Season 17- Sugar turns on Kenny and Crystal Season 18- Timbira completely pagong themselves out the game |
